My 73rd coin of Faustina Junior! But one cannot have too many. Post anything you feel is relevant! Diva Faustina II (Died 175/6). Roman orichalcum sestertius, 26.31 g, 33 mm Rome, struck under Marcus Aurelius, AD 176 or later Obv: DIVA FAVSTINA PIA, bare-headed and draped bust right Rev: CONSECRATIO S - C, Faustina, holding scepter, seated left on back of peacock flying upward to right Refs: RIC 1702; BMCRE 1570; Cohen 69; RCV 5227; MIR 56.
Nice, I have many coins of her too, but will show my death issue. Faustina Jr. (146 - 175 A.D.) AR Denarius O: DIVA FAUSTINA PIA, Draped bust right. R: CONSECRATIO Pietas standing left, sacrificing from patera over a lighted altar and holding a sceptre. Rome 3.2 18.5 RIC III 741 (Aurelius); MIR 18, 57-4/10' BMCRE 711 note; RSC 65
Recently, I thought I was cleaning a Faustina II, because from the crud there appeared a lovely face, wavy hair and a bun in the back. I saw a necklace too and I became very excited because I immediately began looking forward to being able to post her when 'the big boys and girls' of CT put up their Faustina Juniors!! But, when I tried to confirm the identity, I found it was not Faustina, Jr., but Helena. Still, it's a lovely tiny coin. One of these days I'll have a Faustina II to post and in the meantime, I will continue to enjoy looking at the ones you guys have.
Great find with the Peacock @Roman Collector ! I have a well worn and common version: RI Faustina Jr 161-175 CE Ar Denarius m Marcus Aurelius 17.1mm 3g
Nice apotheosis sestertius. I didn't know this type for Faustina II existed. On the consecratio theme, I just picked this one up today: Posthumous issue under Marcus Aurelius 176-180 DIVA FAVSTINA PIA Bust of Faustina Jr. facing right Rs.: CONSECRATIO Altar. 2.38g, 18mm. RIC III MAur 741
Good looking coin, always liked the Faustina : Peacock coins. Got a Faustina Sr. with a peacock but none of Jr.
Perhaps, but I would definitely need spousal approval to have 73 images of another woman, and I do not think permission would be granted . I do have one of these though, from my first ever mixed large lot purchase.
