From one of the German States, love it. If you posted any previously, I wish I would have noticed them. It seems that a major part of Krause's 19 century catalog is devoted to the German States. When I look at the silver coins they are expensive, and there are so many states .. so I never considered a collection from them. But this coin is inexpensive, so maybe now I should reconsider.

Well, I must admit that I buy a lot of pretty cheap, almost "junk" coins, just because I like them and they are old. Some appear to have salt water damage, as if salvaged from a shipwreck. Much of the old VOC stuff can be picked up right cheaply, guess they minted so many millions of them.

    British halfcrown.

The series of British silver coins beginning 1816 (of which this is a halfcrown) were the first silver coins minted by the Royal Mint since the 1750’s. They were minted on steam powered minting machines. With the coming of the steam presses, the Royal Mint moved its minting operation from the Tower of London to the Tower Hill Mint, located opposite the Tower of London.

    From: http://www.royalmintmuseum.org.uk/h...g-money-in-the-past/the-modern-age/index.html

The new Royal Mint on Tower Hill, opened in 1810, was equipped with steam-powered machinery purchased from the great entrepreneur Matthew Boulton. With the factory dominated by flywheels and ponderous lines of shafting, the Royal Mint had truly entered the industrial age. Eight massive presses, separated by columns of oak, stood in the Coining Press Room, operated by a ten-horsepower steam engine. They were each capable of striking about 60 coins a minute and when all of them were at work the noise was deafening.

The first coins from the Tower Hill Mint are dated 1816.
