I have been wanting this coin in a PCGS holder for awhile. Grey sheet has it at $950. What is a fair price with a Green Bean on it?
Really not enough information. $1,100 could be fair, or $1,500, depending on how nice a 65 it really is.
I was thinking 10-20% higher than Grey sheet. If a Toner even higher but I am not looking for a toned one.
I don't have the coin, I am looking for a nice one in MS-65 with a Green Bean. I am trying to figure out how much money to set aside for it. I'm thinking $1,150 but wanted other opinions.
That should be in the ball park for a untoned one already stickered. It's looks like they come up for sale a couple times a year as heritage nor eBay has an extensive sales history of already stickered ones in the last year. If it is the right coin you might want to consider stretching a little if you have to if you love it, but your bid should be competitive with the price you're thinking.
No offense, but considering your question, you probably shouldn't buy a $1000 Morgan. A green bean doesn't imply that the Morgan has great eye appeal. And you don't need CAC to tell you that it's a solid 65... do you?
I cannot know why you want a CAC and respect your desire to buy one. However, to echo micbraun, I would be patient and pick a superb 65 (maybe an OGH) and not bother estimating how much that bean will put you back.
Yes and no. I can see why he want a $1000+ coin to be CAC approved - for the peace of mind. But I don't think collectors should completely rely on the TPGs and CAC. "Buy the coin, not the holder" was one of the first things I learned on CT...
Bman, have your checked the auction prices realized at pcgs? eBay? Heritage? Look I don't like to be blunt and maybe I just had a long day but an awful lot of people on coin forums seem to expect other people to do all of their work for them, even on easily researched things like this.
I am learning to grade right now. I am totally pro buying the coin and not the holder. However like you said, I want a nice coin and peace of mind. I also want a high end MS65. I don't know how else to get one that is not in a TPG holder. Finding a 65 raw in the wild seems pretty difficult.
Not sure why that always gets brought up, he's clearly going to buy one he likes as does everyone with their purchases. Really though holder considerations do need to be taken into account on larger purchases, if someone buys them all as equals it can get ugly come time to sell
I checked Grey Sheet and it has the coin at $950. I checked PCGS auction prices and they were all around that number. I started this thread mainly to find the CAC price for this coin. I am now just going to assume 20% added to the Grey Sheet price.
Sometimes they note if one was cac sometimes they don't. You kind of have to click on them all to make sure if you're just specifically looking for that. They do have a feature to hide CAC prices, but not one to have only those
Exactly. I want this coin to be the jewel of my collection. I will pay the premiums for it to be as nice as can be without getting ripped off.
