I like your style, Ty. I like a guy who takes no crap from people, and who pushes back on silly rules for the protection of the oversensitive. People need to grow both "up" and "a pair". "Safe spaces" be damned.

They can’t take the reality of how people can feel when trying to teach people who don’t listen. I’ve sat here and wasted my time with the guy who always likes to poke me for doing it. Why are they asking questions if they already know? From now on I’ll tell him everything he has that isn’t a doubled die, in fact IS doubled die. And if he got a doubled die, I’ll tell him he doesn’t. Maybe then he will learn. 1921CD11-5AED-43C3-8931-EA2F07BE282A.jpeg

I hear you. I have ZERO desire to facilitate an amateur 'treasure hunter' who is only here to harvest valuable expertise for free, and then not even accept it nor offer a simple 'thank you' for it. Internet slackerism needs to be pushed back upon ... HARD AND OFTEN!

Thank you by the way. I appreciate the understanding and backing. Farewell if I ever do get banned for speaking the truth about my frustration on this topic. I know it doesn’t make me look good. But at least they know, now I’m not good for speaking the truth. :) I just dare them to step in chat avenue and see what the internet could really be like.

If our hosts want CoinTalk to become a place where Internet slackers come to abuse the expertise of committed numismatists for "treasure hunting" purposes, they will have reaped precisely what they have sown - a place where no one who counts for anything wants to be. Pay ye heed, Mr. Site Owner.

I don't know what other people are seeing lately in the "Recent Threads" list, but I'm seeing a marked paucity of threads worth a darn and an explosion of 'amateur treasure hunting facilitation' threads. Not an encouraging development. Members' time and attention is fleeing this site in droves.

He has got you all riled up. It wasn't long ago that you had 0 clue in the area of errors, the thing is you listened, You are in control of your own actions. Right now he is leading your Goat around. Don't let him, tell him what you think and Know that you are more knowledgeable and leave it at that. You cant argue with someone who doesn't care about the facts. If you leave them alone then they, either change their game and want to learn, or they go away. One answer and let it be.
    Good luck!
It's good to have you around here.

You're right. You clearly do not. It's not just this thread. It's about what this entire site has largely become - an intellectual wasteland of Internet slacker leeches doing treasure hunting with free help.

And no, before you suggest it, I HAVE NEVER EVEN COME CLOSE to going through a similar phase in my collecting endeavors. This is a brand new slackerism phenomenon. I'd been collecting for 51 years before even realizing that coins were even happening on the Internet. I wish I still didn't know, but I can no longer unsee it. All I have left is to lament it.

The ethos of the Internet and that of numismatics are in severe tension, in my opinion. The more I read here, the more depressed I become about a hobby I have loved intensely for over 54 years.

It's almost as bad as watching a loved one slowly die - an experience I had just last month.

Well, The way this guy is going, he will NEVER.. i repeat NEVER learn anything about errors. The difference, I listened.. He doesn't ONE BIT! If you read above, you will see the evidence of that.. I am not riled up, i am speaking the truth. If the truth hurts, then so be it.. If i am bad for speaking the truth, then so be it.. I'll carry this goat with pride. I've had to fend off a few people being like this to me in the past.. they didn't get no heat from the moderators. All he has to do is look up the types of errors and actually read and pay attention. What riles me up, is people like @paddyman98 always trying to be my mom, if he feels that i am bad for speaking what is on everyone's minds.. Then we don't need to be friends.. I no longer have to listen to my online mother. I don't care how much people lose my respect either. I give respect for truth, sometimes the truth hurts. its up to the user to learn from it, or keep being the way he is. You guys keep giving me ammunition, and i will keep walking till the goat is dead. portland-press-herald_3691546.jpg

You feed em and they come back at you with more fire power,
In my experience, respect and knowledge is given, to a person by their peers. Commanding these things doesn't happen unless their is a weapon involved.

You ask for respect from this member that got your goat,
And when he didn't listen, you not only took defense to it, you lashed out at a friend and mentor of yours.

    Think about it!
I urge you to reread the beginning of the thread.

I suggest to @Pickin and Grinin that the thread "went south" PRECISELY at post #4. I won't presume to be able to know how Tyler felt reading post #4, but I do know that I felt offended by it on his behalf.

Then post #7 doubled down, and then #14 topped it off. I find Tyler utterly without blame.

There, I read the beginning of the thread again.

Yes, I see that. But, If some one comes at me with "I told you"!
    See post #2.
    That would get me going.
Like @Tyler Graton is the "Authoriti"
To get respect you have to give it.

I do believe there is a "history" here away from his particular thread. It's a less severe case, but similar to BooksB4Coins and DanielCarr. If and when they get onto a thread, you see INSTANT "wild and crazy" long-winded animosity. Any attempt to understand it based on a singular thread is folly.

What I DO grant Tyler is something I see entirely too little of from the vast majority of newbs - he has made the commitment to be an extraordinarily quick study in the particular niche he finds interesting. The fact that his niche bores me to tears is beside the point. I'm never going to appreciate it the way he does, and that's okay. At least he is grabbing all he can get of it with both hands. I only worry about burnout a little.
