The nickel on the right does not look like any silver I have found over the years. After finding a Henning I doubt nothing until I ask...is it possible?? The coin on the right is the one in question. I used another silver nickel for a comparison.
i know the henning was a 44 P but tis coin is to off. the letters seem to strong to be a war nickel with at least average circulation. the strike on the lettering seems TO strong. I might be crazy...but I hope not
I want to share this interesting webpage with those who don't know anything about Mr. Henning http://www.numismaticenquirer.com/TNE/Henning Counterfeit Nickel.html
I was wondering that myself. it says all of his coins had no mint mark but was wondering if tthat could be not true
Yeah I was reading that last night, but I know he used circulated coins to make the dies so what if he used a D or S die and no body knows about it?
Nickels weigh 5.0 so 5.1 is not impossible. I thought the Henning's were off weight by more. "Henning nickels are slightly heavier at 5.5 grams." More reading puts the Hennings at 5.2-5.4.
If you really want to be sure do a specific gravity test on it. If it is copper nickel the SG would be around 8.92 If it is the standard war nickel composition it will be between 9.25 and 9.32
