Hello, I found this coin while I was searching for some RPMs and noticed LIBERTY and IGWT was rather thick. I checked doubleddies.com and the only one was WDDO-001 which was not my coin (to wide of a spread). Then I checked coppercoins.com and the only one with large date also had to wide of a spread. So then I realized maybe my coin could be a new DDO. I just emailed Mr. John Wexler to get his opinion. What do you guys think?

A slight difference in the date took place in 1974.

And you don't see any bolder letters? Maybe its paranoia...:woot:

I would say that the bottom of the 1 would be the thing to look at first! Definitely has a slant to it

True. Its alright. I think large and small date are equally as common. With maybe the small date being slightly more "uncommon"

Don't beat yourself up Ty, most people don't collect these two separately. To me, the wide 4 is the best diagnostic.

    Just recieved the email back:

    Hello Soren,

In 1974 the Mint modified the design on the obverse of the Lincoln cent creating two different varieties that are normal for that year. One is often described as the "Thin Date" and the other the "Thick Date". Some have even referred to the thin date as the "Small Date" variety and to the thick date as the "Large Date" variety. Your photo shows the Thick Date variety.

Both varieties are common for that date and should have no premium value.

I am sorry to have to be the one to burst your bubble on this one.

Good luck with all of your collecting efforts.

So not this one, but Ill keep looking!

I might need to add the "other one" into a blank space in the appropriate Dansco book now. I've got roll after roll of BU 1974's of all three mints.

Pay close attention to " All Dies " ...

Type 1 large date. FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY: Light to moderate extra thickness can be seen on the date, LIBERTY and the motto. All Type 1 dies will show this extra thickness to some degree or another.
