How is this for a buy?

  1. Genuinely curious, I am about to buy 36 90% halves @ 6 each, for each of the 36 for a total of $210. Is this a bargain, or kinda risky?

Melt is $6.07 each today, so I'd say that it's a good buy if you want some silver.

Kirkuleez beat me to it. Decent buy for precious metal. I remember when I first started getting into 90% halves, they were 11+ dollars per coin at my local shops. Of course silver was twice as high though.

How did you arrive at 210?

At $6 each that's a good deal, but w/o seeing them I would imagine they are junk Ag with no numismatic value...welcome to CT.

  7. Well, we took $6 each x 36 coins = $216, and for an even number, took it to $210. They also threw in 2 Ben Franks for free.

If you want to start a collection, you could buy 2 or 3 MS graded Walkers for the same money. Good luck.

38 halves for $210...grab 'em up!

  10. Honestly they had them in 2 rolls, and they are looking like only 3 or 4 or Ag, and the rest looked pretty good, I even seen about 6 BU

When I said Ag I meant silver...good luck.

  12. Oh, I thought you meant average to good. Nah they are definitely all shiners, I don't really know the line between average and junk, but they are definitely over the line. Only one is really oxidized.

Are you buying them from a reputable coin shop or dealer?

  15. Thanks, I am aware haha wasn't sure of the terminology, I thought you meant grading, they were obviously silver, that's why I assumed that.

  16. From a friend in a family crisis, they were their grandpa's

In that case, it's always a good deal when you can help a friend. I don't know what your finances are like, but I'd give the nicest one back to them as a keepsake from their grandfather.

That is a sad to hear your friend has a family crisis. I would pay a little extra just to help them out.
