I am thinking about buying some coins from www.reedededge.com because their prices for the grades advertised seem a little better then most of the competition, but I'm worried that they don't grade as strict as others. I see this liberty walking half dollar that's graded ms-62, but looks pretty nasty.... http://www.reedededge.com/storeitem.php?SID=21545 I'm not an expert grader, but if I bought an ms-62 coin and got that I'd be upset....so I'm a bit worried about the other coins (none of the ones I want have pictures). Maybe there's just something special about that 1 coin, I don't know. Thoughts on this? And I remember someone from here saying they worked there, but can't remember who it was.
That coin doesn't even look UNC. And if it was , it would probably grade MS-60. And that's if it isn't cleaned. Probably worth $200 if original, $100 if cleaned.
I don't know anything about that particular dealer, but I would never buy a coin online without seeing a picture. I frequently find listings that are the type of coin I want and seem to be priced well, even certified, but without a picture, it's like Forrest Gump's box of candy; you never know what you're gonna get.
well the plus side is their terms say you can return anything for any reason within 5 days, and there is no mention of a re-stocking fee or anything (I read the small print too)
Good job reading the fine print for starters. I have returned coins in the past but prefer to be straight with any dealer. I tell them what I want, expect and politely ask them if that's what I'll get. Returning coins is a pain for both parties in my opinion. I did dig a bit into the site. I saw a 3 Cent Silver graded AU58. Not the best picture but looked more XF to me - certainly not slider BU. I'm not here to knock this dealer either. Just an opinion.
Some of the coins are graded correctly, but there are more over grades and overprices than undergrades, so I would stay clear.
I'd steer clear personally. Don't seem like a bad place, but for starters doesn't seem like the place to get a deal if that is what you are after, and that coin is not AU-58 IMHO. Looks more like a VF, possible XF. But that is only my opinion, and others may think differently. Best of luck with whatever you choose. :thumb: Phoenix
I know I may be biased, and maybe its a picture problem, but I have seen the 3 cent silver, and it is a slider coin. It's kind of a crusty coin with some remaining luster beneath the patina. The 1918-S Walker is defininely an Unc with some luster, a pretty good strike for the date, and the marks of more than a 62 coin. The spots are just what limits the grade of the piece, but the piece is completely original and not dipped out. These discussions are very good though, and people should ask questions, because opinions will vary. This forum has always been a great place for these discussions and I know I have learned a lot from it.
