One of the coins in a type set of toned coins I bought. If anybody likes it, I'll post photos of some of the others. If not, well I'll just keep them to myself.
I wish you would post some other's b/c this one looks AT to me. There's no toning on the reverse at all and her face looks way too worn to have been toned. Or, I'm wrong, it was toned naturally and someone used it as a pocket piece for a year or two. What do you toning and Morgan experts say?
This set has a cover on the back that is sealed with some type of glue. Here is a Peace Dollar that I haven't removed the glue from yet.
It's alright Chris, I had that same thought. On the Peace Dollar the reverse is obviously ruined. Maybe you can make a money clip or something where the reverse don't show. Oh, and the luster on the Peace Dollar obverse is definitely dull, could be the lighting tho.
It toned - maybe "naturally" - after a polishing so heavy it can only be referred to as "machine buffing."

I'm sure everyone has seen one one these type sets somewhere. Made in the 70's or eighties with an eagle and Coins of the United States printed on it and in a cheap frame. Have no idea who sold them but it had to be before the net came about, so they probably sold then through magazines or newspapers. I bought one in my teens with war nickels in it that were polished so bright you would think that they were lit. have no idea how much I gave for it but it couldn't have been much. I remember tearing the back open so I could check the mint marks to see if I got cheated. I did. Anyway when I saw this set I had to look at it closer to see if these coins were polished all to hell, yep they were. Same guy made all of them.
No doubt; for sets like these, polishing would have been considered an appropriate preparation step. Do you still have the original holder? That would add some interest to it as a set.
No, it stunk to high heaven, and was taped all up with duct tape. I can tell where the trashcan is if anyone is interested.
