Please elaborate. If you're refering to spending them I agree. If you're refering to producing them I don't. "Where's the profit in it?" I think I get your point.
As far as I know, coins are rarely counterfeited for general circulation. Not for many years anyway. The most counterfeited piece of US currency is (or was before the bigheads, anyway) the $20 bill. It may be the $1 bill now, because of the security features on the bigheads. Less profit margin, but easier to spend. Either way, I don't think anyone would make $1 coins to pass when they could make $1 bills for just over 1 cent.
My point is that the most common reason there is for counterfeiting coins is to be able to spend them as currency. Think about it - the US Mint makes millions and millions every year. No they are not counterfeiting, but it doesn't cost much to make a quarter - about 6 cents. That leaves 19 cents profit for each quarter. 300% seems like a money maker to me.
Kind of figured that's where you were going with it. As for the 3 million Sacagaweas I'd forgotton about that. Just what we need MORE dollar coins real or not.
