Not that it's any of my business, but she's 22 and doesn't have a job and apparently still lives at home? Man, she has problems beyond stealing....sorry.
Hope you get your money back. Sad thing is, if she doesn't even have respect for her own family's property while they're still providing for her, I doubt she ever will.

You are not alone I have had over 400.00 worth of bank roll state querters taken and about 200.00 worth of Pres- dollars taken by a family member. Did not know some were missing for like 4 years because I had just dumped them in a box. thank GOD I have my real good stuff in a safe and safe deposit box

They need help not jail if you turn her in she could have a felony on her record for the rest of her llife. You have to try and forget about the dollar about, it's hard to do I know from the past

    Good Luck

A few thousand dollars is worth way more than a relationship with a sister that would steal from me.

BTW, at least she did not spend the coins like a lot of crooks do. That would drive me insane.

When she hocked the coins did she only get face falue for them? If so, she doesn't sound like the type of person that is going to have an extra $10,000 to pay you back with. This story is actually very tragic and all too common...(you also might want to find out if your sister has a drug problem)

Actually the prices she got weren't that bad

had she not stolen them and you sent them to ngc for grading you would have incurred costs of about $15 per coin when you figure $12.50 per coin plus registered postage, so you would have had to sold them for $65 on your own to get what she got. Furthermore, with ebay fees you are looking at another $5 or so per coin, so now you are up to $70 a coin. With current prices on ebay for ngc Washington smooth edges overall you would probably average about $80 per coin if they were all graded and sold on ebay when you consider a good balance of 64's, 65's, and 66's. If you are worried about the prices she got I would say from that standpoint she only cost you about $10 or $15 a coin which is between $1000 and $2000. In addition, raw ones are around $60 on ebay so with fees and everything you didn't lose much from that standpoint if you had sold them raw yourself on ebay. If these had appreciated nicely in the past few months like I thought they would then you would really have something to fume about, but once again the prices she got weren't that bad.

Sorry to hear the story - not a good story to hear especially if it's related to a close family member. Thank goodness that you are at least lenient. Perhaps you might want to spend a bit more time even though you might detest her sight??? Sometimes you can never tell what she's thinking - you spend so much time on searching for those coins that she must have went fuming mad. I'm actually more puzzled on how she managed to figure out that they are worth something - most people would have thought they are as good as face value.

Actually, many of the coins he had, had die clashes. Those are worth considerably more.

you are in a tuff place . if it is like my sisters that took my coins you will never see them again and you will be at faule . the only thing that i have come to relaise is that the same thing thing will happen to them in the future . just rember that what goes around comes around. and you can chouse your friends but you ars stuck withh relatives . unless you disown them. the choice is yours. i made mine and am quite happy with it one day they will have to face their sins.

best of luck with your decision and dont let the answer eat you up.

Yes I do live with my parents....they are with me 100%....They think she needs to get a part time job and pay me back in a year or so...

Again, there is nothing like peer pressure. Keep it within the family, but figure out some tactful way for it to slip out the rest of the family. Maybe when she comes to visit next time, make a point of bringing all your stuff to a storage facility (or say something to that effect to make everyone ask why).

She needs to feel embarrassed for what she did before she will even consider paying it back.

Well, I'm pretty sure my parents are helping to support her atm, so if she wants that to continue she better pay up...

So obviously she spent all the money already.... =/

A 22 year old who would steal from a minor in her own family. I'm sure she has rationalized this crime to the point that any coordinated attempt by sandler to involve the family will be as seen HIM causing her to be alienated. Chances are she would rather spend decades avoiding her family and guilt rather than face it and make good on her debt. Or maybe she has a more profitable plan. The point is, there a number of ways that trying to settle it in-house could unfold where the bottom line is sandler gets nothing back, and his sister learns nothing.

I'm for the call to the police. This girl committed one of the lowest of crimes possible- twice. She needs a real intervention now. Let the police and court reaffirm to her that this is not a gray area- she is wrong.

And let's not pretend we're just talking about a few coins- sandler's about ready for college and getting ripped for thousands of dollars at this critical time could affect his path forward in life.

Well, my parents and I have decided that we are going to proceed on with just talking to her first, then the police if she won't do anything. Oh, and I just bought a triple error George Washington dollar from the same guy I sold my only one to back in May...It was already sold by the time all the others were stolen, so I no longer had one for my collection....
