    image.jpg image.jpg I'll start with a 1862 to 1 dollar gold piece proof 60 details.

My dream coin is a cameo proof liberty head. Any denomination. This one would work may be a tad out of my price range though:

I haven't compared diagnostics or anything, but the lettering is not nearly as defined as I'd expect and the rims aren't squared.

Well, I can't know for certain, but it is to me!

It's much nicer than any $1 gold piece I own. Ok, I don't actually own any $1 gold pieces, but it's still really, really nice.

The way you presented it, I thought it graded PR60 details, but apparently it's raw, so I agree, not a proof. Appears to be a harshly cleaned (polished) ex-jewelry piece, worth little more than melt. What makes you think it's a proof?

Me too. In fact, if you're waiting for me to post any old gold proof, I hope you aren't holding your breath.

why do you believe it to be a proof coin?

Mintage of 32, with 18-24 known... ya, I doubt that's what you have. Where did you get it? Did you buy it as a proof? (I hope not!)

    Good catch, Kirk!

Looking closely at the lettering makes me question if the coin is authentic. It doesn't look sharp enough to be genuine.

Maybe someone who has a bit more knowledge can give us an opinion.

And if you think a polished coin is a proof... I've got some proofs you would love ;)
