image.jpg Found this penny searching through change and was looking for an expert opinion if this has a true die crack. It starts at the "I" of IN and travels down through the "R" of LIBERTY into Lincolns shoulder. Also there is something going on with the date. Under the microscope a chunk is missing from the top right hand corner of the "2", a good portion of the left side on the "0" and the mid section of "1" as well as over the "0". Both visible without magnification.

I'm certainly not an expert, but I do consider myself a Linconl Cent enthusiast. That does look like a die crack, but hard to say with complete certainty from a picture. I am almost completely sure that you have a die chip inside the 0 in the upper left there though.

Yes I am trying to figure out how to get better detailed pics to post. I assume you need one of those microscopes that attach to the camera on your iphone to do it correctly or something. I only have a handheld Carson microscope at this time. Die chipping would best describe what I'm seeing thru it. As I decribered earlier looks like a chunk chipped off the 2,0,1 and above the 0. Looks like it starts inside the 0 going left then curving up taking a tiny portion of the 2 then over the 0 and down thu the 1 to best describe it.

Your photo is pretty good, it's just sometimes hard to tell if small features like cracks are raised, or a scratch in the surface for me by photos or even in my hand. I often have to scour coins for minutes turning them over and every which way.

Does not look like a die crack to me, its too hard to say for sure because your picture is too blurry, but die cracks are supposed to be raised.. they shouldn't appear like an actual crack.

Yeah it's very thin and tough to make it but your probably right. I can't see any indication of it being raised the more I look at it.

My guess, something soft and heavy may have put a lot of pressure on one side while something soft was holding the other side in place, causing the surface to crack.
