Hello! I have two new purchases that I've just imaged, and I'd like some assistance in determining varieties (and dates) for them, as I don't speak Hebrew. I've at least done some of the heavy work, just need a final expert opinion or two.

    Thank you!

    Israel - 19?? 100 Pruta
    Weight: 11.3 grams
    Diameter: 29.5mm
(NOTE: I believe due to weight, this leaves only the 1949 and 1955 dates as options - sadly, it cannot be the very expensive KM19 from 1954.)

    Israel - 19?? 250 Pruta
    Weight: 14.3 grams
    Diameter: 32mm
(Note: due to weight being 14.3 grams, I would assume this would make this coin KM15a - .500 silver, mintage of 44,125 - and not the lighter KM15, which should weigh at 14.1 grams. Although, I think I see a pearl on the denomination side? Does the silver version have the pearl, or no pearl?)

Go to Numista. All their listing for Israel coins have the date clearly detailed in Hebrew characters. This is exactly what I do when I get an Israeli coin because I cannot read the dates either without help.

@sakata - Perhaps it is so for other coins, but not for the 100 Pruta (at least; looking at that page now and IMO it's like someone took half of the info from Krause for three different varieties and smushed them into one listing.)

@Zohar444 - there are two coins; the second was only minted in 1949 but there are three varieties in Krause. The first was minted (at this weight, anyway) in 1949 and 1955. So, your answer would apply to...

    Yours is 1949.

So, according to the link provided by @Zohar444 , the 250 Pruta is the 1949 with pearl (not silver) - which means the coin is overweight by .2 grams.

I'll assume you're saying that the 100 Pruta is the 1949 version (since you're not being clear). Am I correct? FYI - that website doesn't help a non-Hebrew speaker determine the difference in date script either.

I believe the silver version also should have an H mint mark at the bottom (mine doesn't) so...rats. No unexpected world silver tonight.

Thank you to everyone who chimed in - much appreciated!

I'd like to declare my candidacy for CT Idiot of the Week...(somewhat)...

Krause has a handy list of Hebrew dates on the preceding page of the book. I...I could have just looked there. Hooray!

In my experience they don't necessarily look like the ones on the coin though. I was doing this recently and I had it narrowed down to a few similar looking dates and figured it out eventually, but Krause and Israel use different fonts which isn't helpful.
