Marcus Tullius Cicero is one of the most interesting ancients to me. He was wildly intelligent, but also very vain and obnoxious. What a cool fellow. I am seeking a coin made during the period of his main career (63-43 BCE) that is interesting, and within the $100-150 range to commentate his life. I have been thinking of perhaps the Lepidus Paullus, Glabrio, or Bacchius Judaea. Any suggestions?
I would suggest a coin issued exactly in 63 BC, because that was the year of Cicero's consulship, when he saved the state (according to him, at least!) from the Catiline conspiracy. One coin that fits the bill and is in the right price range is this issue of Brocchus: I think the curule chair on the reverse also makes it a good fit for the historical link you want. (I've convinced myself, at least - that coin is now on my list. Thanks for the idea!)
