just looking for input on this coin, there are not any die markers listed for it on wexlers. But looks like a decent spread on obverse

Go to the very last listing here: http://doubleddie.com/384301.html

    1972-WMDO-001 (Doubled Master Die)

That is what you have. The doubled master die is seen on roughly half of ALL 1972 cents (all mints - P, D, & S). While it is technically a doubled die, it is as common as the normal 1972s.

I sent in a 1955 DD and a 1972 DD, this was the results:

Wow. 1 out of 2 great 1972 but how did you come to have the 1955 DD. Was it in circulation?

I had it since I was a kid, but a dealer friend suggested I send it in along with the 1972. You can imagine my disappointment when the 1955 came back counterfeit.

I have to say that is a great looking counterfeit. I would seriously keep that. Still a great novelty item.

My coin club has a display of counterfeit coins, I gave it to them to add to the collection.

real disappointing. I would never of guessed that and would get a 2nd opinion for sure.

Yes, and is one of many "true" 1972 DDOs, but is in no way the one the OP was asking about.

Mont's 72 is real. His "55" is, unfortunately, counterfeit.

Darn, what's the diagnosis on how they figured it out? I wonder....

Die marks. They said it was good, done with dies, but had known die marks for counterfeit, a chip at 2:00, Scratch along shoulder, scratch behind ear.
