It looks like my up north property where people 40 years ago left carpet and foam and let it dissolve and mold and get ripped apart (we cleaned most of it up)
Looks like it toned on something that had a geometric design on it. Not so sure its AT but not so sure it would get slabbed as MA either. Where's @BadThad been btw??
Tommy03.... I know you cant really tell without an exam and it is a result of exposure to an environment but can toning be called "damage"? youngcoin........how far up north? Alaska? Night*Hawk.......I did not perform a litmus test. Could be basic fog. Cascade.......explain AT and MA. I'm new here. Chewmasa......you are on the ball. I find that I cannot produce the obverse of the coin at this time but how could you be sure that I did show you the actual? Sorry
Too bad it appears to be corrosion rather than toning. It's still neat looking. What does the obverse look like, you're only giving us half of the story.
AT or Artificial Toning, at least in my book, is damaging a coin. Third Party Graders (TPG's) will dun a coin for this. You are correct, can not tell what kind of exposer this has been through. Could have been chemicals or a reaction to being in a non safe PVC flip maybe. They will turn green from this.
