I had this question in another thread, but thought it might be better to create a new thread. Don't know how to delete it from the other thread. Here is the other one where I have no clue - on the obverse Augustus and the legend AVGVSTVS, but on the reverse can't read the legend nor identify who it is. Diameter 16 x 18 mm, 5.07 gr Thanks a lot for your help! Chris
Hey Chris! Go here http://isegrim.dasr.de/isegrim/anmelden.html , click anonymous English then search Asia Minor then paste vt: portrait man r rt: portrait man r gr1:16 gr2:18 m:ae in the search string box. This will give you 22 coins to compare. Also take some different pics and try to get some of the inscription in better focus. For some reason its putting an emoji after vt:. There should be no space after colons in the search string.
Thank you so very much ancientone! That is impressive!! Great job! Will try to read the legends and make better pictures to share.
I made new pictures but I still can't read them and compare them to the 22 coins in isegrim. I think they can't actually be improved because the letters are pretty worn out. I am sending them anyway, maybe some of you guys can see something that I can't? Thanks! Chris
Finally, after taking a lot of pictures, using the magnifying glass and searching on the Internet, I think I found on this last day of 2017 the right description at http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/caligula/RPC_0996.jpg Caligula and Germanicus AE21 of Knossos, Crete, C CAESAR AV GERMANICVS, laureate head right / GER CAESAR PVLCHRO III VARIO IIVIR, laureate head of Germanicus right. Svoronos Crete 209. Knossos RPC 996. I am attaching better pictures, so that at least part of the inscriptions can be read. Do you guys think I am right? There seems to be a star, which I can't see on the wildwind coin, in front of the first picture. All the Best to all of you in 2018
