I found a coin today dated 1789 to 1797 but does not have the hole on the top. It the 1st President U.S.A George Washington coin. Does that have value?

    I don't know. I know this:
If it is one cent coin, he himself did not have it in his pocket.
Well, the last president does not have one cent coin in his pocket, either.
So, you yourself can know now if it has a value or not...

It's not a one cent coin. It's $1.00 George Washington coin dated 1789

It's more than likely a medal instead of a coin. Can you post photos? Some medals are quite valuable.

And he tossed a silver dollar across the Potomac.........what's your point? Oh dear. I think I may have hijacked (sidetracked) OP's thread............hee, hee........

Might be a presidential dollar. That had the 1789-1797 on the obverse instead of the real date due to the edge lettering

That's what it has. And the edges says in God we Trust but can't make out the rest

Even in that condition it is worth $1.00.

Google " George Washington Golden Dollar". It was minted in 2007.

Environ damaged coin........spend it, and forget about reading the edge.

Back when the mint first issued these coins, I eagerly awaited their arrival, as these were the first coins with edge lettering (done by the mint) in quite some time. The '92 baseball commem had edge lettering, and what a splendid job they did with it! But when my roll of Washingtons arrived, I was abysmally disappointed. A cave man could have done better.

The rest of the edge should say "E. Pluribus Unum" and the date and mint mark. Some of these were made wrong with missing lettering or no lettering at all. A few other Pres. coins also had this problem. The Mint was having trouble at the time getting edge lettering correct.

They did a better job of this back in the 1800's. What a mess these were.

I believe that's what it says on the edge but it's hard to read. The portion I can read says "Unum"

At the end, after all answers, she, you too, will see that my answer was more valuable than her question.
(anyway, this thread not for me.)
