True DD on 1979-S SBA?

There are no known doubled dies in the SBA series. That doesn't mean there's not any jus extremely unlikely! GL&HH.

Man, I really need to learn how to differentiate the legit die doubling from the ones that are due to either deterioration or strike error.

Do you see all of those parallel lines in the fields that look like NCC-1701 has just entered hyperspace? That is die deterioration.

He means the mint mark bro, there is a mint mark variety

Tyler, there's a type 1 and a 2 right? What year was the other one? 80 or 81?

 

I don't think he realized that it was supposed to be for a proof coin and yours is not a proof coin( or it doesn't look like it is to me) I just looked it up cause I remembered

 

Is there a way to tell/ differentiate? I have quite a few of them.

 

Frosty devices (letters numbers and the design) mirror like patina in the fields (fields meaning the flat surface with no design). It shouldn't be hard at all to spot them. They look very different than the regular business strike coin

 

Also, patina means the reflectivity of the surface of the fields

 

Got it. Let me check right quick. Btw do I have to start a new thread if I have a question regarding SBA coin that has nothing to do with doubling? It's more on the discoloration I guess. Or can I message you instead?

 

I'm still learning so it would probably be best to put it on a new thread. But I'll answer if i am closer to 100% knowing what it is
