This one arrived in the mail today. I already posted my other Indo-skythian coins last week so this one takes center stage. Post any of your coins that arrived sooner than you expected.
Nice DR, and a nice background as usual. Yet another coin that is on my list. I purchased this coin off the same fellow, mailed on Friday, mailbox on Monday. LYDA, Sala. Semi-autonomous. Magistrate Androneikos. Æ18, 3.2g, 7h, AD 128-161. Obv.: CAΛHNΩN; Helmeted head of Athena right, aegis on chest. Rev.: EΠI ANΔΡONЄIKOY CAΛ; Cybele, turreted, seated left, holding patera and resting arm on drum. Reference: BMC 18-19; SNG Cop 424.
This guy is intriguingly mysterious. Is he first century? second? Saka? or not? Very cool BM exhibition, @RAGNAROK, thanks! I might recommend Kenneth Harl's series of lectures for the Teaching Company on the People of the Steppes. Really links the history of east and west very nicely.
The two Nahapana coins above very nicely show the variety in strike and design in these. Below a copper of Nahapana's predecessor Bhumaka. Not a coin that will win a beauty contest, but you should be able to recognize the thunderbold on the right side.
Great coin @Deacon Ray , and way cool / super bonus for ARRIVING sooner than expected! This guy keeps moving farther away from me, and I keep moving closer to HIM! Keep your eyes open. They are not rare. There are fourree Croesids and electrums from the earliest period. If they made it, someone faked it.
