Kids brought me a roll of pennies and i opened it with all.of them being 1974. Does this happen often?
They look great. Maybe a stash someone had put away from the 1970's and finally decided to get rid of them.
If the photo is representative of the whole, you've either an original roll (OBW) or what's often referred to as a "BU roll", which is simply a solid roll of "BU" coins someone put together. While not commonplace, it isnt a rare occurrence either. Fortunately or unfortunately, some dates/types rolls are plentiful and carry very small premiums, so is often easier to spend as originally intended than it is to search out a buyer. As an example: once the State Quarter series came to an end, and many people discovered their "surefire investment" was a total bust, OBWs could be found at many banks. 'Tis a neat find nonetheless, and one made even better considering the source.
Ok so i looked them closer and on about 10 of them a lettering issue on the same spot. Anyone know why they would all be like tis on the same spot?
If it was at the same spot on multiple coins, it might mean it was on the die striking the group of coins, or may be a defect from the coin counter machine, but that is unlikely as the orientation of the coin when counted would be random, so I suspect the first. Yes, photo please.

I didnt see anything that would be a double die and thank you just wasnt sure if this adds value or decreases value. Very new to this. And i believe they had a new roll on them. Seems if it was from 74 the paper would be discolored or something like that. They are all the same color and all 1974.
Hmmmm? Maybe they were hand-rolled by the guy who bought two $50.00 Mint bags of 1974 Philly from me a few years ago. Were the ends of the wrapper crimped or just folded over? Chris
That's strange, it's a recent bank roll. Idk if they had bank rolls like that in the 70s... then again I am a 90s baby. So what do I know? Lol
I didnt see any scratches untill magnifine glass. Then there are a few with scratches and some with none.
Someone had a lot of those pennies and turned them in. The bank rolled em back up. I've seen 2014 quarters do that, but mine had one or two different quarters. You didn't find one penny that was different date? Wow. Lol.
No, everyone is the same. I went back to rite aid to see if they had anymore and they said no. But the pennies i got back from buying stuff are all new looking 1974 d's. Im pretty sure the ones i have were new or never put in someones pocket. Just about 10 of them have that same problem with the same letters. Can you see what im talking about? I only have my phone to take those pictures.
I don't mean to sound like a broken record but pictures are blurry and it's too hard to see splitting. What you should do before sending off a picture is zoom in, if you can't see what you see on the coin, neither will we. This is advice by the way.
