Went to the Ohio State Coin show today and spent most of the time stalking ancient coins. There were only six dealers that had any ancients, and a single exclusive ancient dealer - Kayliescoins.com. I didn't buy anything because of winning a certain contest. But, had a great time chatting with a few other buyers hanging around the ancient coins. Then I moved to modern coins. For some reason when sellers bragged about the age of a civil war era coin, or a coin from 1800, it didn't resonate like in the past. At first, I couldn't figure out why. Then it dawned on me..... the CT ancient forum gang RUINED ME! Thanks everyone - you should be proud.
I am not a collector of ancients but I really love how they look and the history behind them. I was lucky enough to be gifted several by @Jwt708 while on deployment, which I love, but haven't broken into the hobby yet...I'm still not sure where to start!
Same thing happened to me, having recently on holiday in UK having the opportunity to buy a sought after Henry VIII AR Halfpenny 1530 AD cheap I declined and brought a Constantine 324 AD camp gate instead and still cheaper, after all the Constantine also passed through Henry VIII's history timeline and also the Viking's invasion of England and to top it of looks better as well.
Now you've gone and done it! When they see that here you're doomed! To be fair I went along willingly.
I remember my first ancient coin purchase. I came in here and said "Oh, I'll probably buy 5 or 6 every year, but I'm focused on modern coins." Four weeks later I was buying my 8th ancient coin and was in the process of selling off all my modern coins. Never looked back.
You have room for me and either coin at your place? I'm gonna need a place to stay after my wife kicks me out
It's hard to tell, based on the fidelity of the recording and my speakers, but it sounds like actor John Hurt, who played Caligula in I, Claudius.
Actually her husband Charles Laughton (Captain Bligh among others) She was also the bride in Bride of Frankenstein. Charles only directed one motion picture...care to guess which one?
Makes sense. I don't know Laughton's voice very well, and the recording lacked the high-frequency harmonics that distinguish the timbre of Hurt's voice. And I know he didn't direct himself as Quasimodo in 1939's The Hunchback of Notre Dame...
