Featured Roman Provincial Coin Cities-- How many can we cover?

It's a great coin, Charles, but I don't think Marathos was under Roman rule at that time (mid 2nd century BCE, although I think your coin is dated so you might be able to read a more specific year). I'd file this with your Greek coins.

Corinth is on the list of possible cities under "Koinon of Corinth". I prepared this before I found it on the list, so you get to see it even though we have already had a coin of Corinth.

The legends name the two duoviri of the Roman colony Corinth.
The date and place of this coin are interesting in an early Christian context, given the connection between Paul, Corinth, and the New Testament. Paul could have handled this coin.

 

Here's one I missed out from PROVINCIA DACIA, "Dacia, Province of" on the spreadsheet.

I posted this coin before on Cointalk, but I don't think it's in our list yet. It's from Claudio-Seleucia or Claudiopolis in Pisidia, and a pretty barbaric style it has. Wildwinds has only a few coins of this city, so I think I'm lucky to have it.

Thanks for the additions, Z and Pellinore! Both have been added to the list, as well as others since the last reporting. Count is now 224.

Corrections and additions will be an ongoing process. Next on the repair list is to re-do all of the Peloponnesos listings. I don't like the way the list's original author handled that area.

 

If you are referring to Henrik Agndal's list I agree. The province for Peloponnesos is Achaea, also a region of which there were many. Like Syria, I describe these coins with three names; province, region, city.

 

And I was the happy winner of a certain large bronze of Valerian, issued in Elaiussa-Sebaste, which is under Sebaste in the list. Here it is.

Elaiussa-Sebaste (after the Greek) or Elaeusa-Sebaste (Latin version) was a thriving town between Vespasian and the early Byzantines. It is in Cilicia, in the middle between Seleucia Trachea (now Silifki) and Corcyros (now Kız Kalesi) on a former island with an isthmus (now sanded up). Substantial Roman remains have been left for the modern visitor. On Google Maps you may find some pictures.

A search of "Trajan Galatia" produces none on vcoins or MA-Shops as I write.
A hard to find architectural type. Judging from this thread, the place must be rare.
