What would you grade this 1900-O Barber Half Dollar?

I found this today metal detecting and there is some graffiti and a notch by the rim but it does look like it has some detail. Also since it has the graffiti and rim damage should I just clean it up to see the shiny detail? Just curious but already happy. Any opinions will be appreciated. [IMG][IMG]

Too bad about the graffiti........VG-8, though I can't see Libertys' ribbon. Is the inscription evident?

The inscription is good and you can even read "E Pluribus Unum" very well on the obverse.

Need a shot of the obverse. Agree the reverse is VG-details. Scratched and environmental damage.

Nice metal detecting find. :) Where abouts did you detect it? School yard, historic site, back yard?

Still........a damaged coin due to the graffiti, but an very wonderful find. It wouldn't get 'holdered' but who the devil cares?

It's the first time I've ever been there it was a very modern public park that was donated by a wealthiest family in this town in 2006. But down South "wealthiest" means old money and that usually means old land to me, so I was hoping it was old land donated in 2006 and I was right. For once!! :laughing. It was about a foot away from modern children swings and slides. I'm going to do a lot more research on the land on Historical Aerials. I just read a litte about it on the drive up there. I left on the whim I was going to go wherever the rain hasn't hit yet. These days I f you have 4 hours of no rain and it only takes an hour to get there you go. It's been raining here the last two months ( Hurricane season is crazy )

And the good news is I have a new spot to hunt for the next year. It's been a rough 2017 in the old silver category not even to mention big silver.

I cleaned it. It's said it had that graffiti it looks like it has a lot of detail left. You can even see the LIBERTY head band. [IMG][IMG]

    Just an FYI.

LIBERTY in the headband is a key area when grading Barber coins in Good through VF. It's a lot harder to be specific without seeing that. Your last pic of the full obverse provides all the info needed. That's what was missing earlier.
