Hi Chris! I'm absolutely intrigued. What is that coin with the big "5" on it? Can you please clean that one next and let us see it? Or will the experienced ancient collectors enlighten this inexperienced one? Thanks! Looks like tons of fun there.
I can only think that that one in particular isn't an ancient but was mixed up in this lot. The 5 looks like a modern font and the relief in it is modernly shallow. :/ but don't quote me, I'm no expert. But I'm as intrigued as you are. I'll have to post a group shot of my recent cleaned lot... About half are attributable.
Deacon Ray - I appreciate the offer and will take you up on it. I'm planning on making the move in the next three weeks, so when it's imminent, I will drop you a line.
It wasnt an ancient and i got a partial refund. It was a modern European coin. I took the photos upon reciept of the package.
Haha yea if I win this I'm giving one to my friend I got him into it and his dad likes it too me and him were both thinking of buying ancient's and were looking for one thanks to @Sallent one is in the mail on the way for me he has yet to get one were both 14 so its gonna take a while to save lol. whoever wins if its not me make sure to make a thread showing each coin! And yes this is very generous of you a great way to keep the hobby alive me and my friend are trying to get our friends into it now! I'm falling to the dark side of ancient's! Thanks, Jacob
I've lagged a bit on reading some threads so I'm very late to this party. I feel this is an area (although late) needs a response from someone like me. Most know I collected Moderns for around 25 years and I still have 90% of them. I got serious with ancients 2 or so years ago maybe a little less. I still collect ASE's and war nickels and some commemoratives, along with Chineese Pandas and Australian Silver bullion with some gold as well. Point is you can do both and have a successful collection. Just figure out the areas that interest you and go, enjoy and have fun. Thats what its all about anyway.
I collect medieval and ancient primarily, but I keep up with the new issues from the US Mint and the Royal Mint in Britain - have a full run of Washington quarters and Roosevelt dimes, and darn near every British decimal issue that saw circulation
Hi Jacob. It's called 'sleepy waiting cat' so that's why I put it. I think if this soft creature could speak it might say: "Did I sleep through Deacon Ray's drawing? No? Okydoky...I'll just be over here." Have a great week!
I didn't understand the meaning either but it was too cute not to "like". I also bookmarked it because surely I'll need it someday ... DR, you are awesome. Thanks for this spectacular giveaway!
Thankyou for the clear up and yes Dr thanks for the great giveaway! EDIT: Best of luck to all today! Thanks, Jacob
