Ah, I've never, ever tried to use that actual filtering -- I just filter on the title. I figure nearly every listing that includes specific settings for those details will also have them in the title, but lots of listings will omit the detail settings.

I am in my office at work, read this and busted out laughing. My boss looked over at me as if I was crazy. We are in a very small two man office. Oh I need that laugh. But when speaking of ebay, it is like that sometimes....

 

I sell on ebay and the fees dont worry me..... I have been there since 1999 and all my fees i have paid have not bothered me..... It costs me 10% for ebay fees and 9% for paypal.... Paypal is the safest way to get paid... Prior to me migrating to the USA from Australia, i decided to take a week off work and fly all around Australia to buy USA mint stamps.... I spent close to au$17,000 and this was going to be what i use for shipping packages when i got to Ohio...I will not disclose the discount i received but lets just say it made up for my ebay and paypal fees combined. Attached is an example of a package i sent to SC and in it were mint sheets of USA stamps from years gone by. Both normal postage stamps and cinderellas. I will not disclose the front as it has the buyers adress and would not be fair to them to have it sprayed all over this site. The receiver loved the way i flooded the package with old stamps and he bought more off me but mainly in plate block form. I do this with all my packages i send and especially average sized envelopes as i use 3c and 4c stamps all over the back...... The main factor is that one has to be prepared to buy up what he/she sees at that very moment and i was. The best way is at a stamp show and especially from a dealer that has had a quiet day...You can be sure to get a better discount then to cover the ebay and paypal fees. Attatched are pictures of 2 books i have full of mint USA stamps ready to use on packages....This is just the tip of the iceberg so to speak. Imagine another 6 more books full and the face values go up to $1 stamps. Just remember mint stamps are exactly the same as gold, silver, cash, property but in a different format. They will never ever lose money as once they are printed, they stay that price forever ( as long as they are still mint ) just imagine if you also were a stamp collector as well as coins....Which would you prefer?? A package i make up smothered with stamps in blocks etc or a pre printed adhesive sticker from the post office. i think i know the answer already. There is also a form available from USPS that gets you, as a collector of stamps the right to use pre-cancel mint stamps also. You fill it out, present to the postmaster and are issued a permit to use these on first class mail and packages only. A bit tougher to figure out with the various issues which are often fractional but another way to save money on shipping costs. The one caveat is you must use them only at the P.O. that issued the permit and you must write or stamp your permit number on each package. The form number eludes me at this time though.

 

I’m trying to post in the correct forums even if they haven’t had posts in a while. I have to say that I sell stuff on eBay and not to sound arrogant but I am as honest about what I sell and post the best pictures I can, which are pretty good I’ve been told. I’ve never tried to buy a coin on eBay. I went on today and am so disappointed at the misleading titles/crappy pictures I’m just not sure what to do. It’s not rocket science to take a picture that’s not in a shadow. I’m not dogging people who don’t take the best pics and I have been one of them. It takes practice and I’m certainly no expert. And there was a title that read “1950 d Jefferson nickels” and had a picture of several nickels and it was priced $13 plus shipping. At the end of the ad it said “price for one nickel”. Maybe because my dad was so much older than me I’m sensitive to misleading crap but please be careful on eBay and read the entire description. So frustrated! Sorry for the tirade.

 

Traci tirades are my job best to leave them to the professionals! I’m with you about the crappy pictures on EBAY. I just stopped looking at any posts with crappy pictures at all. I just flush the add if the pics are crap and move on to the next.

Hope this does not sound harsh, but if a person cannot do the job correctly then they have no business being on Ebay or any other site. And I'm thinking...Listia, Etsey and Webstore to name a few. Way to many kids and amateurs. On Ebay I add to my favorites, only those that seem to me to be professional.

 

Adding favorites on eBay is a great idea. It bugs me to no end when people try to bs other people to make money. I know it’s all to common but it’s still frustrating.

 

Traci, Just like you, i am an ebay user also and i have learnt that ebay only sides with the buyers. So please recognize that first. I saw what you said and that seller was completely in the wrong.... You see these sellers that do what you pointed out to simply want to blindside the buyers as majority of the buyers just look at the pretty pictures and dont read a thing. I am going to give you an example of what something must say. Take my picture in here for example. It was released in 1919 at the end of WW1 and all school children in Australia at the time received one of them. It is not a coin as there is no monetry denomination on it and there is sometimes a ribbon. This way it cannot be called a coin as one cannot spend it. As i said in red on the picture " 1919 WW1 Australian Victory medal " The word war before medal would have looked squashed the writing and buyers use any reason not to bid or leave a negative. I can sent you a huge blocked list from ebay if you wish...That was over 12 years on compiling. However my title in the auction would read WW1 Era , 1919 Australian Military Victory Medal Given to School Students (#1)...... The #1 only represents the actual picture of the item i have on file......have a look at ebay # 152862255759.... Traci, please treat buyers all the same...Make your descriptions so clear that a seeing eye dog or a kid under the age of 1.5 that cannot talk yet. Other than that, get a computer screen incorporating braile as that is the only way they will comprehend anything as they cannot read the normal way...I know i am going a bit far with that but ebay buyers have done it for everyone....... just remember if you have all the information in the description, you are not at fault...the buyer is for being lazy and not reading. have a nice day...Hal

I buy and sell on eBay, not necessary coins mind you, it is pricey on the one hand, yes... But it is a way to reach a very broad market... As a buyer,I tend to lean toward free shipping...I also tend to do quite a bit of research on what I'm buying/selling... To inform and to keep informed... I'm not rich by any means, but am at times willing to pay a premium for something I want... That's my 2 cents...

 

If all you are concerned about is the free shipping, then you are wasting your time searching for anything....Does that mean on top of listing fees, selling fees, paypal fees we pay out of the minute prices you buyers bid, we are supposed to throw in the shipping for nothing and on top of that it has to have tracking at the sellers expense????

 

Just raise the price to cover shipping.... It's not really a big deal... You seem hostile for some reason...I don't charge for shipping when I'm selling... The cost of the item is adjusted to offset the shipping...

 

Hello all! I’m new here and have skimmed this thread and I’m getting an idea of what you are saying . However, I don’t understand some of the wording/descriptions people are using on eBay. Most of it seems very deceptive ! Back in the day when I used eBay, you took a picture did a description and posted. But today it seems to be more complex. One particular Thing I’d don’t understand is the prices! They seem “way to low”! As an example I have a bicentennial Ike that I was going to post. I did my research, is in raw state, so I did a grade I figured was fair then took it down a notch so I would not be wrong. I looked on pcgs for a price and then decided what I would be happy with under that price. Well when I got on line to post it for my price I found a lot of people selling items that they graded or were even slabbed selling for “cheap” ! So cheap I was thinking of buying instead of selling!
So what’s the deal? Why are people selling coins that (as an example) should sell for $18 and selling them for $2.99? Or less?
What am I missing? I’m confused! Help me out please!

 

@Koin Nut Yes, ebay has gotten far more complicated in the past couple of years. Although they have the selling page down to one page from two, they now require a lot more info on a lot of items. If you cannot add info to the line items highlighted with a red asterisk you cannot complete your submission. As far a the cheap prices go, it seems a lot of people get into the slab craze prematurely, spend a small fortune to do this and later find they had a common, high mintage coin slabbed and they often come in under the owners expectations for a grade. A lot of money wasted. You may also see raw coins cheap under the auction format at a low starting price with the seller hoping it will advance. But often times it does not and these can be had on the cheap if you are lucky enough to find them and be the only bidder. I have picked up many Proof 69 DCAM coins this way for under $6.00 each slabbed by PCGS. In these cases the seller had submitted hoping for a PF 70 DCAM or Ultra Cam.
