First, welcome to the neighborhood @Chester abaya ! There is a big difference between a Mint error and plain old damage. It is important that you learn about the minting process before you start searching for mint errors. Then, you won't be wasting too much time on obvious "spenders". Chris
Don't pay me much mind - I'm just a 62-year-old guy who's been collecting coins since I was 8. What is it about these kinds of coins that attracts your interest? Have you not handled pocket change before?
Sorry, but the marks and discoloration occurred after the coin left the mint. As others have said, it's not a mint error, but referred to as PMD (Post Mint Damage). The coin took a number of hits and you can see the gouges left behind. Chris left some good advice. It will take time, but if you are interested in looking for mint errors, this is the way to go.
Here 's the first "CUD" I found in change. I even sent it in to be graded. It happened to be a 20006-D ND. I may even pull it out and take a better image of it.
Bro, I would suggest to you, before you get a coin graded, you should ask here if you should even get it graded! You might be paying more for the grade than actual price of the coin.
Yep, I knew the grading was worth more than the coin, but I wanted to get it slabbed to keep it in nice shape. You may not know but they only charged $10 to grade back then, over all I may have sent as many as 25-30 in while they were around.
