Jim & CC: Good luck with those Minelabs. I do understand that they are supposed to be great machines. However, after A Whites Eagle SL II, several XLT's and now the DFX, I guess that I am prejudiced toward the Whites machines.
Hi Jim, Great finds. Where do you like to look? I'm thinking about starting and figured that parks, old school yards, etc. would be prime. Anyone ever do old cemetaries? or is that too gruesome? BTW, I live near Lansing. rono
Digging outside an old cemetery is fine, and probably a good spot. But digging in the cemetery is very disrespectfull.
Yeah, that's true. I wouldn't mind if someone detected where I was buried, though. As long as they didn't disturb anything and left it the way it was. It's all in the name of history, right? A lot of people certainly would care, however, so it would definitely be best not to go into the cemetery. The area around it might be ok, though.
I don't know about the Minelabs but I like how I can locate hollow spots (i.e. tunnels, encased caches, caverns, etc.) with a White's Metal Detector! By having the signal turned up enough to hear a solid tone, the tone will blip and go completely blank when the head crosses over one of these. I located a hollow spot in the entrance (archway) of a Civil War Fort in Key West, Florida which was then and I think, still is a State Park. I informed the Security Guard which was a friend of mine, he nortified the State Park Officials and after they got approval, they dug the entrance up and found a cache of Civil War Rifles still packed in cases with packing grease as well as ammunition. Since it was a State Park, the State of Florida donated some of the rifles and kept others, while I did not even get a thank you! Frank
I am in Jackson County. You should check out the MXT as well. I hear good things about them. I have a friend who had a DFX but had problems with it. That may be a one time thing though. Whites are a great detector. I started with one. They are balanced great. The detector I swing now will kill your arm but its too good to go back. Jim
