Lincoln Cent collectors

Although not a die hard Lincoln collector I too have been picking up the semi-keys.

Went to a show Sunday and saw a real nice, high end AU 31-D for $50. Sure I could have gotten it cheaper and considered it ....until I saw the 1855 Three Cent Silver. Wanted that more and had limited funds.

Yep, they are all moving up fast and I'm in no position to get an SVDB so I'll stick with the semis.

I am having a little buyer's remorse. Bought an uncertified 1909-s VDB. Got a good price (coin should go at least fine) but afraid it might not be real. Haven't got the coin in the mail yet. Guy said he would give my money back if it wasn't. Will post a picture when I get it to see what you all think.

 

I was thinking about that 1922 Plain in MS-63 or 64 but then I think I'll settle for a few rolls of 1909S VDB's in any MS grades. With this I could sort of corner the market on them and demand any price I want someday.
Oh, look it's time to wake up.

 

09 VDB, Raw, MS R, amazing luster is my target. Got one that is toned, but I'd like a nice red one also.

After looking up prices on 09 S VDB I'm beginning to think I'll be better off with a couple of semi keys in AU. What do u think?

 

$35,000 to $85,000 depending on color.

I'd buy the best 1909-S VDB you can afford as soon as you can.
I agree with everyone here who says the prices are going skyrocket (more).

 

All the advise above is right. Buy the best you can afford, buy your key's slabbed.

As a seller, I know that the high grade circulated dates sell well and are in hi demand. XF and above are always good sellers. I would avoid the common mistake of buying below a full no problem FINE grade, they are just to common and do not stand out at all in a collection other than a hole filler.

When it comes time to sell, wether to a dealer, a show, or on eBay, you will always do better with higher grade coins. You will be in the drivers seat, or in a better position to get better money. No dealer " really wants " your full rim goods, but he sure will perk up when you show him you XF/AU coins.

And yes, I think there is still a whole lot more interest going to be directed to Lincoln cents. Look what the state quarter program did to that series !!

 

As I understand it, high(er) grade 1909-S VDB's are rather common when compared to the total number struck.
It was the first year of a new design AND a commemorative.
People immediately started socking them away, hence a lot of high(er) grades available.

Compare their value to the 1914-D.
The 1909-S VDB's are worth more until about AU when they're equal.
After that the 1914-D takes over.

 

I'm thinking of shooting for a slabbed XF condition 1909 S VDB.
Those prices still seem somewhat reasonable to me and I think it has a lot of room to go up.
When the prices peak, I think the common coin collector will only be able to afford the XF and below.
Someone sitting on a bunch of XF's will have a nice market to sell to.

 

I agree, I want to buy an EF/AU range. I've looked at Ebay but didn't find anything that tickles my taste buds. I have 2 coin shows coming up including CoinFest but don't have much experiance buying expensive coins at shows.

 

I'm looking for two Lincoin 1909S/S S over horizontal S AU raw and a 1917 Doubled Die Obverse AU raw.

 

I called it quits on my set of Lincolns pretty much. My 09-S VDB grades VF, my 14-D grades F15+ and my 31-S grades MS64. I wouldn't mind upgrading a few of the teens but they aren't all that bad and I'm happy with the set. I'm not planing on selling it unless the house that I want to buy would go up for sale!

Yep, I would like to buy 3, but that would put way too big of a dent in the checkbook.

 

i know this isn't as great but looking for a 49-s cant seem to find it......maybe at my coin shop....goes for idk 5-15 cents? After that....its the rest of the commons between 1909-1940 then semi keys and keys if i can afford it......but doubtfull

For my set, it will be a 22 no-d in a die#2 XF, NGC or PCGS preferred, $2500 and up it's lookin like, thats the last hole in my set.

I pick up scattered bargains here and there when I see em too.
