Very nice finds Jim. I know where an old one room school house used to stand back in the mid to late 1800s. I know that no one has detected there yet. That may be a great place for me to start detecting. All I need now is a metal detector and some time to do it.

Yeah it was. It was found in a small downtown park that I never wanted to try and detect. To many people around. Glad I went. Was the only good find from that spot.

Nice lookin' finds. What detector do you use? I use minelab explorer SE.. use to use White's XLT but this year switched to the Minelab. Nickel counts are way up (1 Shield, 13 Vs and 13 Buffalos). You have some nice lookin' finds for sure.

    Where are you located?
I'm on Long Island, and those nice oldies are getting very scarce.
    I use the White's DFX.

The DFX... I took a long hard look at that machine. Was using the XLT for long long time, but thought I'd try something totally different and went with the Minelab... and to say it was totally different is an understatement. Took a while to get use to it. The XLT/DFX design is real nice and feels good (I still have my XLT). Minelab is hard on the arm, but it's depth and tones are pretty great.. takes a while to get use to though.

I'm in Montana.. so they don't get too old in my neck of the woods. I about crapped my pants when I pulled a Shield here. You never find Shields here. East coast has got be detecting heaven.. be it civil war, colonial, etc. I'm jealous.

Classic 'old' stuff here are Indian Heads, V-Nickels, Barbers.

Howdy, I use a Minelab explorer 2. Had an original minelab explorer xs first. I started with a Whites QXT back in 98. The explorer is the best in my opinion. Depth is great, and seeing coins that others don't is great. Would never use another detector. My buddy uses a MXT from whites and does real well with it. Thanks, Jim

What I particularily like with Minelab is the tone id (ferrous and running all metal), you definitely get to hit 'worked out' areas again and find keepers. Silver seems to be ate up regardless, but I find plenty of nickels, tokens and old indians in those spots that I've hit in the past many times.

    Hey Jim
the wife and I just got our Whites catolog, we'll be looking in the showroom this weekend. I'm thinking as a 1st timer, I might get the good one and just start off right. DFX I guess. Wife will get something cheaper and lighter for sure.
Where in MI ? I grew up in Detroit and have been here for 16 years. I'll be doing alot of beaches in Mexico / AZ, as well as just camping and hikling areas and city parks. Just a beginner but the more I read about it the more I want to sell a 16-D merc or something and go for it.
