Thank for your comment. As to him being upset, how do you think I feel that he continues to accuse me of "hijacking" his '55 picture? I posted the '55 that turned out to be counterfeit, but he keeps jumping into posts that I'm involved with and keeps bringing it up. All I ask is leave me alone. At some point he has to get over it. He did not lose money or anything similar, so why does he keep going? Maybe he's OCD.

Mine is certified and it looks nothing like yours. You posted my coin and my image a while back and said it was yours. At that time you said I was telling a lie. You never took that back and told the truth. You are the one telling lies. Do you want me to bring that thread back up and show everyone that you are not being honest? Tell the truth but don't ever question my honesty. I'll build a damn thread around your lies if that is what you want. It's all here on this board. Don't blame me for your problem. You created it.

Look I am not enjoying this. You said your coin is certified. The coin I posted was raw, it didn't have the tabs from a slab or any indication in the picture of it being from a slab. Why are you continuing with this? Let it go. I've lost a lot a money by having my '55 DD coming back as counterfeit, you were lucky yours was genuine. You should be happy about that and stop making a big deal about what you think is somebody posting your coin. I asked you when you posted a picture of your coin and you didn't answer me. I've only been a member for a short time, so I probably wasn't even aware of this forum when you did put your '55 in a tread, so how could I copy something when I wasn't around when it was listed?

Both of us are saying things that are being said in the heat of anger, just drop it and be happy with your certified '55DD. By the way, I never called you a liar, I just denied it was your coin. I don't use the term liar lightly and it is not a part of my vocabulary.

Its best for the forum, that this does not continue along this path. Please find it within yourselves to let it go, as if it continues, un-necessary things can happen. Jim

I'm sorry this tread ended so soon, I feel that members were contributing information that benefited newbies and acted as a warning concerning purchasing high end coins raw. I certainly learned a lesson and I hope it provided some valuable information to others.

At least they think it is genuine. Remember NGC does not guarantee authenticity on ancients.

Actually, no one "guarantees" ancients, but at least they now have a grader that specializes in them. I don't think they are going to start carbon testing, no organic matter, in the near future.

The slab also protects the coin from all the people that want to see and touch it, and then I get to explain what a TPG is.

All reputable ancient dealers offer a life time return for any coin sold. On this forum most ancient collectors do not like slabs and enjoy handling their coins. Ancients are not the same as moderns. And you have a fine looking owl!

At full purchase price and regardless of reason, or are you specifically referencing a lifetime return privilege addressing only authenticity?

That said, any modern and/or US dealer worth his/her salt will offer an absolute lifetime guarantee, and return privilege, for any coin determined to be counterfeit.

I'm not the in depth collector of ancients that some of the other collectors are. I enjoy them, and if I can afford it I will buy one. I believe in slabbing high end coins, it's just a personal preference of mine. As a collector of more modern coins, 19th, 20th, and 21st Century I have an inherent fear of hurting coins by handling them without them being in some kind of container, I've seen to many coins with finger prints and scratches to overcome this fear. Each collector has their own way of collecting coins, there are no set rules, and mine is to send high end coins to TPG, I can still see them and enjoy them and don't have the worry of harming them. Different strokes for different folks.

Somehow my tread on the counterfeit '55 DD got changed into a discussion on ancients and my Athena Owl. my fault, I'm the one who posted about it and posted the pictures. By sending the '55 DD to TPG I learned that a coin I had for years was not genuine. A tough thing to find out, but better that I know than some heir trying to sell it and becoming disappointed. It's going into my coin clubs collection of counterfeit coins and may benefit some future collector to look at a coin a little more closely and maybe do a little more research , although as I mentioned quite a few people, including long time dealers, thought it was genuine.

All dealers have to, because it is law that they do so. But I get your meaning.

Are you sure it's not like getting a counterfeit bill? The last person who has it is the loser.

If a dealer sells you a counterfeit coin, and he is decent he/she will return your money, but do they have to? They may challenge the fact that that's the coin they sold you. (unless it's slabbbed)

If you come back a couple years later with a raw coin don't expect anyone to accept it as a return

Of course not. I believe eBay is 90 days and PayPal is 180 days. A local sealer will probably have 30 or less days.

Just depends on the shop and your relationship with them. If that's the only purchase you have ever made from them as soon as you walk out they will probably not remember it

There are 5 local dealers in the area that I've dealt with for years and I think only one would give me a hard time. I don't buy much from him, he's not very pleasant and he has a small shop within another store. To be honest, the Albuquerque area is loaded with Pawn Shops and I've gotten some of my best buys there and have never been burnt. I think they like to clean out their inventory quicker than a regular coin shop and they pay less and charge less. Sometimes they don't even know how valuable a coin may be, they're more interested in the gold or silver content. To the best of my knowledge, I've never gotten a counterfeit from a pawn shop either. I'm friends with a local jewelry store and they have an expensive metal analyzer and they'll check out coins for me as to the metal content and it's percentages.

THIS! THIS! THIS! I always tell people this exact thing for these exact reasons. They don't really understand until I pour out a bag of fakes and show pictures of fake slabs.

Pretty coin. I don't see anything that makes me think it is not genuine.
