1971 D Double Die Lincoln Penny?

Hello!

I recently joined and this website have been helping me a lot! I'm happy. Anyways, I have reached to the point where I cannot really recognize the difference between a plain penny and a double die penny. I came across to two 1971 D pennies. From what I see, it appears to be double die pennies. I am going to need extra eyes over here.

If it is actually doubled die, then how much it is actually worth? I did not really research into it as much as I could, but I found a source.

"1971 1c Doubled Die Obverse #1. VCR#1/DDO#1, CONECA DDO-001, FS-101 (FS#1c-031). This is the big one! A PCGS MS65 Red sold in a 2005 Heritage Auction for over $10,000.00! Another one in PCGS MS64 Red sold on July 8, 2009 by Heritage for $920. PCGS Price Guide lists an MS64 Red at $1400.00. This one is “raw” and a solid MS64 Red and is of a sharp earlier die state with crisp clear doubling. While it has a few more dings than the aforementioned MS64 sold by Heritage, its surfaces are much cleaner in that it does not have the preponderance of planchet stains that the Heritage coin had. I also have 1972 and 1976 D Pennies.

First, what you quoted is in reference to a significant, well-known, and popular 1971-P (Philadelphia) cent whereas you state that you have a D (Denver), so this is really apples and oranges.

As for the coins shown in the photos, the images are not of sufficient size or quality to tell much of anything, but chances are that even if you did have a known variety, it would not be worth much in these conditions.

Hello I found this 1971d looks like DD BER on liberty are double also he's whole head looks flat and deformed and check this out.on the reverse.on top of one cent.it has.RACIME.real big letters as big as one cent.looking at it more it reads AMERICA.also God we trust is double.the pennie looks brand New.face book disabled my account don't know why .if I get a response I don't know where it would go thank you

I found one of the 1971D wddo-001 a couple of months ago. Mine is a little beat up but a nice addition to my collection. Its not a spectacular ddo. Extra thickness on igwt and the date.

 

Hello I have a 1971D and serval more with the letter D coins could some one tell me where can I sell them.

 

D just means they were minted at the Denver Mint. If you have a 1 CENT, that's what it's worth.

 

..... short the very long-shot possibility of having a variety or very high grade example.

I have actually 2 1971 D mints and they both are in really good shape and they both have doubling on front and back of coin ,the difference between them is one weighs 3.11 and the other weighs 2.75 same year same mint different weight , I have been through a hundred plus more and none of them weigh 2.75 , whats odd is the only other Lincoln cent that weighs this are the 1943 steel Lincoln cent they weigh 2.75 but the 1971 D is not steel can someone tell me why this is plz ? I cant find anyone that understands how this came about .

 

I also have a 1992 close am that has doubling on front and back also ,the a and m you cant put a hair between them and its also in great shape ,I have a lot of Lincoln cents that would score up there aways on the mid state scale , a lot that is uncirculated and a lot that have been in circulation that look untouched , Edited: Please read rules on B/S/T ( offerings) .have a good night all .

I have a 1971D penny that has double strike on the reverse on the word “united” and the “OF” is almost missing.... any worth

A Doubled die variety has nothing to do with a double strike. Most likely mechanical doubling with happens during the strike but considered worthless doubling.

Suggestion. Don't create your posts in the What's it Worth forum. Try the Error Coins forum. First figure out what you have. Worry about value last.
