Interesting. I had no idea they had a low mintage. That was the year I was born and I bet several passed through our house that year. If only I had known that then!
me neither . i had no idea about the mintage after i notcied on auction the price was high. so i was interesting to have it Sent from my LG-H872 using Tapatalk
1998 San Marino 10 lire... for the "coins with hands" collection. seller's pic... I waited a very long time to buy this coin by itself and not in a whole set.
My two latest, a couple minor Japanese. The sen is a new date for me and I'd been watching it on eBay for months and finally bit. The 20 sen is an upgrade and just couldn't resist it.
Here are two coins I got inspired by other people who posted their coins here. 1946 Luxembourg 20 francs, and 1957 Ceylon 5 rupees.
Here's a coin I got today to add to my turtles collection. It only has a mintage of 750, and it's four ounces of silver. This this is about the size of a coaster. Normally I don't even consider a coin like this as something I can find, but it happened to pop up in a search I did when I was bored one night, and I had to go for it. More than I usually spend for coins, but I didn't know if I'd ever see one again.
Here are a few new pieces i just aquired. 1909 20 Cash Y21.3 (XF-AU) 1909 20Cash Y21.5 (AU-MS) 1906 Chihli 5 Cash Y9c (AU) 1887-88 Chekiang Cash HSU 151.2 (XF) 1928 Honan 100 Cash Y395 (AU) 1928 Honan 100 Cash Y395.1(AU-MS) 1915 10 Cash Y401.1 (XF) 1928 Honan 200 Cash Y 396(XF-AU) 1928 Honan 200 Cash Y396.1 (XF rim dmg) 1906 Chekiang 2 Cash Y8B (XF-AU)
Since the Latvian central bank also says it's a fly (queen of flies apparently), it must be a fly. Christian
Love to share some new pickups before I head to the studio: Germany (Weimar) - 1927 J 50 Reichspfennig KM 49 Mintage of 4,056,000 (Note: VERY excited about this coin, even with the rim ding, because it's going into my 1927-themed hoard.) Having been inspired by @mlov43 with his article about South Korea, I have been thinking about putting together a sort of type set. I haven't decided how to organized it yet and still in research mode. I was able to start off with these 3 coins. The 10, 50, and 100 Hwan. KM#s 1,2,3. The 10 and 50 Hwan are dated KE4294 which is 1961 and the 100 is KE4292 or 1959. The 10 and 50 Hwan circulated as 1 Won and 5 Won from 1962 until demonetized in 1975. The 100 Hwan was pulled from circulation in 1962 and melted. I was thrilled to obtain these 3 as a set for the huge sum of $6.50. Since the 100 list for $25 and the other 2 at $5 each, I think I did OK. South Korea KE4294(1961) 10 Hwan Mintage 100,000,000 50 Hwan KE4294(1961) Mintage 20,000,000 100 Hwan KE4292(1959) Mintage na
Well, I'll be hornswaggellered! Well, welcome to the bold, bizzare new trend in world coin collecting! And you'll never guess where South Korean coin collecting is trending... In South Korea! Yep, lots of newbies over there are digging through their change and driving up prices at their local coin retailers. The videos that I made of my albums at YouTube were lucky to get a few views every week. For YEARS. Now those same vids have thousands of people viewing them every week! And 95% of all the viewers are from South Korea. And if you're going to expand on your S. Korea type set, get it together now. Prices have only spiraled for the key date pieces in Mint State condition. You can still snag an occasional good buy here and there... My advice: Hit the coin shows! You did really good! And it's all because of that 100 Hwan coin. It can demand $25 in that condition, for sure. Congrats, man! The 100 Hwan mintage is 100 million. They were actually minted in 1959 and 1960, but all of them only have that Korean Era "4292" (1959) date on them. And since they melted and reused 315 metric tons of those reclaimed 100 Hwan coins after the currency reform of 1962, that left roughly 3 million of the original production amount "out there" among us collectors. See this production chart on the Hwan coins (click on it to view larger): For everything that you didn't want to know(!) about South Korea's "Hwan" coins, take a look at this: http://dokdo-research.com/hwancoins.html Cheers. Let me know what else you're thinking of adding to your type set...
Last Thursday, I lost a very pretty PCGS MS-65 1907 2000 réis on Heritage. Granted, it ended up going for more than what I should have been willing to pay, so I didn't hit the bid button again and regretted it shortly after Luckily, a few days after, I found this one in an old for sale post on one of the forums after searching around a bit for a nice one and it just so happened that the guy still had it, so I bought it. I'm quite happy with it, and may eventually send it in to be graded just because I lost that other one, even though it's not financially worth it. I'd be pretty satisfied if it came back MS-64.
