    Hey guys! First time poster!

I just received my Grandpas old collection and in the box I found 7 rolls of Pennies. I havent looked through them all yet, but so far all 1959-1975 memorials. What should I keep an eye out for?

Anything in that date range is copper, which some people like to keep.

Also S-mint Lincoln Cents from the '60's and '70's can be harder to come by.

Welcome to C.T. are you a collector??? If so, you came to the right place to learn, teach, and communicate with like minded folk.

Thanks for all the info! So far I have at least 30 1970 S and 1969 S.

68-74 had the S mint mark on business strikes. They really aren't worth any more than a cent unless it is mint state condition. While the mintage is lower than the Philly or Denver, there's no great value there.

Yeah I was looking for varieties and errors on those two dates though. Isnt there some pretty rare and valuable ones?

    First welcome!

There are a lot of errors that you can find on doubleddie.com and other sources. If you are starting your collection and want to learn flip through the error coin threads and you'll be able to learn which errors are which, what caused them and if they add value to the piece.

A good investment would be the Red Book. You can find it cheap on Amazon and it has many of the more common errors and values. It covers all Us coinage and is a real good go to. Just keep in mind that their values are usually higher than actual market.

Also don't hesitate to post coins that you would like to know more about and learn with. Make sure you take close clear pictures of the obverse and reverse to help the other members identify what you are seeing with it in hand.

    1969-S doubled die. Extremely rare.
1970-S small date bottom of the 9 is pointy and LIBERTY is usually weak. And as the photo shows, the curl of the 9 comes way around.

There's a 1960-D small date over large date + repunched mint mark too.

I personally would keep any S's you find. Above, a member commented that the S ones aren't worth more. That is true, however, I'm working on a penny collection for Indian Head's all the way up to the present Shield's, and I'm missing all but one S for my collection after coin roll hunting many pennies. They are definitely rarer :)

"Missing all but one," so almost all of them  1974-S is the only one I've found. I must get really bad boxes of pennies...
