the coins in this set are a disappointment. I wouldn't expect an upside to these sets. They'll sell for under issue in a few years.

I feel sorry for the people that have "invested" in this set.

It certainly seems that the mint was, um, unimaginative in their use of the enhancement process.

    No

They became UNAVAILABLE at the mint site, which everyone assumed meant sold out. They went back on sale on 8/3 and are still on sale.

There was a media report of a large order (20,000 sets) being cancelled due to payment issues.

The mint reported 217K of 225K sold in their weekly sales report on Tuesday (which reflected sales through Sunday). It's widely expected that this week's report will be lower still due to returns.

People have 7 days to return and then return shipping, etc. - they may go back on sale yet again...

I feel sorry for anyone who invests in the hobby itself. The hobby is meant for enjoyment, not profit, and if you can't pick the winning horse (which obviously this issue isn't) you're gonna be doomed to failure.........

Should have made them in silver. I got two. I have seen a half and a dime graded 70 on E-Bay sell for less than $20 each.

Purchased my first set for $50.00 when they was sold out, Then when they came available on the mint's web site went ahead and purchased three more just to put up and sell down the road as a unopened/sealed set of three for down the road. Now I'm thinking just go ahead and just give them away for Christmas gifts and be done with this mess.

I was just notified by the mint that they're back on sale again.

I might have purchased one set if the coins where silver: just another disappointment from the US Mint. I'am still stewing over the S Minted ASE in the Congratulation set. The US Mint is still selling marginal products at a HIGH PREMIUM and with no competition- to me that's the definition of a Monopoly in business. With the money the US Mint made off of this set they probably could produce the cent for another five years. Someone once told me that coin are one of only a few government sponsored art forms which is true: but it's hard to look past the rip-off.

Seems like when this is said and done more than 20 percent of the mintage will have been returned or canceled at some point

YES, especially the Kennedy. I received my single Kennedy today for the Dansco. It looks absolutely incredible! The contrast between the look of EU and Proof is stunning. I took some pics:
