I did live there in 1982. Where did you end up?

Was working for Ampex in Redwood City CA and they closed and I had an opportunity to go to the plant in Opelika. I jumped to 3M instead and am in Camarillo, CA, now retired.

    Here's the NGC/Krause page.

Technically, it has to be Mint State (MS60) or better to be worth "a buck or two".

I'd call this piece XF40, personally, and as such, it's a twenty-cent item by the catalog. But I don't think 50 cents to a buck would be out of the question, since they're decent sized coins, and cool looking.

Brings back memories of Africa for me. I lived in East Africa as a kid, in 1972. We were in Tanzania, but visited Nairobi, Kenya once. I was familiar with these coins and may have spent them over there once or twice. I used to get some really neat-looking Tanzanian coins for my allowance.

PS- too bad it isn't a proof. Only 15 of those made in 1969, and yet the catalog value is only $110! I'd like to have one of those!

I have that one in UNC. Worth about 2+ dollars. It's a good looking coin, though; that's why I hang onto it.
