Among all 1980's Zlincolns - 1982-1989, over fifteen thousand grading events - PCGS has graded a total of twenty MS68+ examples and ten MS69's. The largest "Top Pop" population of any of them is three coins, and most issues have one single coin at the top. It's a pretty competitive space if you want to rank in the Registry. There are 41 100% complete "Memorial Cent Basic Set" entries in the Registry, and all but one of them has a GPA of 67 or over. You gotta be over 68 to reach the top 15. There aren't enough ultra-high-end 1980's Lincolns to cover the Registry. And that's not even counting the "Circulation Strikes 1909-Present" sets, which won't all overlap the Memorial Sets. You bet that space (Top Pop) is gonna be competitive.
Well I would like add a quick question to this topic myself if I may ... Because It is a bit interesting . Infact . I have a pair of nice looking 1985 D lincoln cents myself that are probably no where near a M68 condition but i think they have some very Rare and Unique Errors that I have not seen on any other coins . So my question Is ... Is this the kind of TPG certified ERROR that you were talking about Lordmarcovan ? And how much do you think they could possibly fetch if certified and authenticated ? Oh and I won't say what the error is . I will just challenge everyones sharp eyes to see if anyone can figure out what the error is that I'm referring too ...
Interesting...so, there's a total of 30 (PCGS) that are 68+ or higher?? That much $$money$$ to complete a set in the top 15?
Don't forget NGC has their side of the circus also. They list 5 MS 69s. In the last 18 months both PCGS and NGC have limited new coins in their registry sets to their own plastic. That's also created some pressure. If you had an NGC 68 and you want to upgrade it you have to go for the PCGS 69. But yeah it seems like crazy money for a little recognition.
Worse yet, they're spread out, so if you want the "best" set you probably need at least a third of that total yourself.
Buy or make. The other problem with these moderns is the hugh population that hasn't been scanned. Could be a roll of absolute gems in the next box, cratering the premiums.
Hmmm . Well I guess I'll just create a new post of my own since no one seems to be to interested in my input on the topic . Boo hoo . Im crying so bad right now . Lol
That would probably be a good idea, and I would suggest you don't post "I will just challenge everyones sharp eyes to see if anyone can figure out what the error is that I'm referring too". Most people offering help on this list don't have the time to play games. A short, to the point question like "Does the xxxx on the front look like it's a doubled die" will have a much better chance at getting a clear, concise answer
Come on now so are we really being that petty ... You see I tend to try different angles do to the fact that that I've noticed that there are so many ego driven people in the coin talk who don't know how to simply answer questions without some type of slick or cocky remark and so when i choose to allow the experts to figure out the error on their own one of you actually still finds a way to be Petty and even call that playing games ... Lmbo ... I think this forum would probably be pretty cool if there wasn't so many childish and immature individuals in it . Smdh
Jewels, In case you didn't notice, you fit your description of others very closely, and I suggest you read the rules before irreversible things might happen. The forum is pretty cool, and not for playing games. So take your own advice that you gave Old Hoopster. He was trying to help you get answers and I do agree with his approach of asking directly what you want answered. When one wants others to answer first, it is usually because they have no idea themselves, so Grow UP if you wish to stay a member, or find a more cool forum. Jim
