A coin and a movie

I've had this coin for a couple of years and was one of my first couple of dozen ancients that I purchased.

    Valerian I

Last Saturday me and the wife went to the local cinamark to see the movie Valerian.
It's not often on a weekend that I'm not at work to have so much to do around the house. So this for me or us was a treat.
The movie got some pretty bad reviews, but I happen to enjoy sci-fi action flicks.
So I thought the movie over all was pretty good, maybe not the best cast of actors for the movie and the plot was a little flakey. The fx to me made up for flaws of character and plot.

I know there's some sci-fi junkies here, so what are some of your oppinions?
    And share a relevant coin.

Love the coin; not so sure I would care for the movie.

Haven't seen the movie, but I think I'll be on the lookout for it.

Speaking of sci-fi movies, I've always thought Philip I looks like the new Spock from the recent Star Trek movies.

Yeah, that's what happens when you are trying to multitask and are not paying much attention to what you are typing.

So all you Star Trek fans - the 35 year anniversary is approaching for The Wrath of Kahn and it will be aired in theaters again. I already purchased tickets! I'm pretty excited since I never got to see any of the original movies in the theater.

Sallent, I'll up your new Spock with the TOS (and far superior) prototype. From a Tacitus, posted by Medieval over at CCF a couple years back. Even the flip's plastic and the lighting cooperate here to distort the emperor's ear a bit. I think the mintmark is IDIC. (If you're actually looking for it on the coin below, you missed the very esoteric Trek joke I just made. Believe me: it was hilarious!)

WOW, sell that at a Trekkie Convention, and you could probably pay for your WHOLE collection!

IDIC = infinite diversity in infinite combinations.

From a medal presented to Spock in one episode. Later sold as a collectable created by Gene Roddenberry as a shameless money maker.

LOL, he does look like the new Spock!

Speaking of Spock, I dug up this treasure at my mom's house this week. LOL! I might put it on my Charlie Brown Christmas tree this year instead of the single red ball :D

Wow I almost feel old, lol.
I remember me and my sister going to see that at the theater.
I also recall her and her boy friend dragging me to a trekie convention when I was a kid. I found a room that was showing non stop shows. I eventually found a spot on the floor and crashed out until they came and found me.

The reviews of Valerian scared me off, at least until netflix or rental, then I will check it out for sure. My first thought was that it visually reminded me of The 5th Element, looks like it was directed by the same guy?

Here's a sci fi movie I rented recently and enjoyed...

Kind of like Contact, and sort of reminded me of the more recent movie Interstellar. More hard sci fi than laser guns and spaceship battles (I do like laser guns and spaceship battles however!). Anyway, give it a shot. Chrsmat71 gives it a thumbs up.

I liked Interstellar, I've probably watched it 50 times. Arrival the reviews have kept me from for now, my wife isn't big on sci fi movies so rentals I have to space inbetween boring shows she likes.
If you like the laser fights and fx you may like Valerian. It has a few laugh at moments. I wanted to watch it on big screen and 3 D is why I chose not to wait on netflicks and may be the difference for me. My little 55 inch tv I don't think I would've liked it as much as I did at the theater. I'll watch it again when it comes out on blue ray just to drive my wife nuts.
