I'm not selling anything, I just want to hear how much you would be willing to risk bidding on this lot. How much would you be willing to wager based on the seller’s photos and information provided? Assume shipping included in your price. Seller claims: $49 in dollar coins $29 in half dollars $35.25 in quarter dollars $25.9 dollars in dimes $8.80 in nickels $2.56 in cents For a bonus, guess how much in silver is in this lot. I won't know until it arrives. For the record, I think I overbid on this one. I'll reveal what I spent and what the tallies actually are when I get the coins. Here are the Seller's photos:
Not more than $100.00. The dollar coins are basically face as are the cents. Halves look mostly 40% and only 1 Buffalo nickel and a few well worn war nickels are showing. Can't see the dimes well enough. The mist sets are nothing special but the bi-centennial looks silver. My limit would have been $100.00 and no shipping.
So, that's $150.51 face value. *I'm going to assume all the cents are Memorial Cents and are worth FV: $2.56. *I'm going to assume all the nickels are non-silver, non-keys, non-gems, so FV: $11.36 *I'm going to assume all the dimes are non-silver, non-keys, non-gems, so FV: $37.26 *I see TWO 40% Washington Quarters (.1791 ASW per coin, so that's .3583 oz) and no other silver looking quarters, so that's $34.75 FV plus about $6.10 in silver: $78.11 *I see two clad halves (in the mint set) and, just to guess on the "hopeful" side, let's assume all the rest are 40% (including the two bicentennials), so that's $1.00 FV plus silver (8.282 oz; $141.71 via Coinflation): $220.82 *I see two 40% silver Ikes (.6325 oz; $10.82) and I'm assuming the rest are non-silver, non-keys, non-gems: FINAL TOTAL $278.64 So, I'm guessing 9.2728 oz by ASW of 40% silver coins. The rest is probably stuff you could get from a bank for FV. Based on the photos provided, the most I'd pay is $278.64. Since I can usually buy 40% for under melt, in a real life scenario I wouldn't even pay that (sight unseen.) FWIW, I HOPE you get more value than what I've estimated.
I must admit, I think you are making a big assumption on the halves. You can see quite a few of them if you zoom in on that photo. I would love to make more than your estimate
I was just pointing out the absurdity of an under face offer. I probably would have passed on it or just tried to get the Ikes and the Halfs, but if I was going to make an offer it would definitely start at a number to cover face plus shipping
I guess you're not into US then. I don't know many US collecting nuts who wouldn't at least offer face value on this.
I see some 40% halves in the loose Kennedies. I might not go TOO much over face, but definitely would offer a modest premium. How much of a premium? Hm. I dunno.
150.51 Most of it looks like face value except for a few 40% halves and some circulated Jeffersons, the mint sets have very little numismatic value. 160 including shipping. This is someone getting rid of his change.
Sorry this took me so long. First, I had a significant issue with the seller that I'll start a new thread for. Next, we've been traveling for the last month and haven't had a chance to pick this up. I still need to sort the Cents, and see if there are any errors in the remaining coins, but I just got home so I'll give myself some slack. Here's the score from the purchase I made a while back: 13x war Nickels 5x dateless type 2 Buffalo nickels 1x very nicely toned 1975 Nickel. Looks MS. Need to check for FS. 3x Mercury dimes 13x 90% Roosevelt dimes 9x 90% Washington quarters 2x 40% Washington quarters 25x 40% Kennedy halves 4x 90% Kennedy halves 2x Franklin halves 2x 40% Eisenhower dollars Approximate silver value: $180 Looks like I will recoup my money on the silver value alone. The remaining face value puts me well ahead for this one. Not all purchases end up this way. Another, smaller purchase yielded two wheat cents and nothing else (I was less hopeful, anyhow).
