I know some people on here use this photo editing software because this is where I found out about it. Can anyone tell me what setting I need to change so that my photos fill the screen instead of being smaller? It used to be that all the photos came out the same size no matter how big the coin was, but now smaller coins come out smaller in the pictures. This is a problem if I want to sell one on eBay because eBay has minimum size requirements now. Even if they meet the minimum though, I'd like people to be able to zoom in on them, and they can't with smaller photos.
You can change the size in the combining screen. It also has an auto setting that keeps the size of the smallest image. I usually just fill my computer screen after the coins are combined and call it a day.
I solve the problem by taking all my pictures in very high resolution so that I can zoom in on details if I need to. I then take a copy of the picture and resize it to whatever I want. This can easily be achieved by using the Page tool to create the copy. It should also work to create larger copies.
I should mention that I've been using this for a few years and it always worked automatically until recently. I can't figure out what changed but obviously something did. I'm scanning the coins and recently got a new scanner. I wonder if maybe I need to increase the resolution or dpi?
What dpi do you use? I use 3200 on a 3"x3" scan. I then use photoscape to crop and rotate and then resize the coin down to 100 pixels per mm. That is, I resize a 23mm coin to 2300x2300. This gives me a very high resolution picture in case I even need to see the details. Finally, I use the Page tool to create a side-by-side image of the obverse and reverse at 400 pixels each, or 600 pixels for coins over 30mm.
Are you saying the issue is with photoscape? Are you ensuring when you save, that it saves at 100% file size? That's the only thing I could think of.
On my old scanner it gave me a list of resolutions to choose before I scanned, but in the new one it's hidden. I just looked and it only has low, standard and high. It defaults to standard so I'm going to try high and see if it makes a difference.
I thought it was with Photoscape but now I'm wondering. It seems to have changed either when I started using my new scanner or when I started taking the coins out of the 2x2s to scan. It seemed like it started when I took them out of the 2x2s, but that doesn't make sense does it?
Well, it could be that the scan has auto settings that adjusted to the fact that the size is different. To be honest, I would troubleshoot with coins in 2x2s and out with the scans. You should know before it goes into photoscape whether they're the right size and go from there.
I'm not really following you. Your changed have been scanner (where you can check what resolution you scan at), method, which you can change, and photoscape, which is a last step change so you should be able to rule the other two out by the time you get here. I think you have the tools you need, you just need a little time to tinker.
Yeah, I need to try some things. I'm kind of working this out in my head as I talk about it. When my baby who is sleeping in the room with the scanner wakes up, I'll experiment some.
I figured out the problem was with the scanner. Took a lot of digging to find the right settings. I like the Canon scanner but it's really positioned for basic use scanning photos or documents, and finding higher settings is difficult.
