Someone just tried to scam me on eBay.

Not if you deny the request and cite the fraud which has been passed onto police. You can make it very clear you are not voluntarily accepting a return. They're just banking on you saying it's not worth the hassle and accepting the return

This is like a guy who robs a bank, and when he gets caught says, "I'm sorry, here's the money back," and the police just say, "Thanks," and lets the guy walk.

 

A little off topic, ebay sent me an offer to sell my old phone.
Free listing and such, I figured it couldn't hurt.
I did a bin with offer and got a ton if lowball lowlife offers from 1/0 feedback idiots.
3 days ago one got tired of being ignored and bought it.
Still hasn't paid yet, doubts that they will follow thru with 0 feedback.
All it does is tie up the listing.

Just how easy is it to create an eBay account these days? When I setup my account - many, many, years ago, a person needed a verified credit card. Is that still the case? Someone told me not to buy any coins off ebay from anyone with fewer than 20 reviews and they must have 0 negative reviews. After that I started to take notice of any of what I considered "questionable" coin listings and sure enough they all had under 20, and usually were 10 or less reviews. Rte - I beleive you can cancel your listing - even after someone has bid and 'won' it. I think you can also require that any bidders have as least a certain number of reviews in order to bid. But Ebay may have done away with those features. -

 

This is why I always say NO RETURNS in my auctions. If someone has a genuine issue and messages me, I take the return. I'm a reasonable guy. I just don't want to be forced to take unreasonable returns by eBay. This type of scenario you describe is nonsense.

 

But then you miss that 10% discount (which used to be 20%).

I'm small-time, and couldn't even justify shelling out for a store (which gives a slightly less than 40% discount on coin final value fees). But I'd have to think long and hard about complying with the onerous requirements eBay imposes to earn that 10% discount. It wouldn't take too many late or problematic returns to eat up that margin...

 

It is quite easy to create an ebay account (likely under 5 minutes). I believe all you need now is an email address.

If you want to set up a paypal account, that might take some extra time (to link a bank account and a credit card), but still not too long.

Plus it is still possible to buy without having a paypal account.


In terms of selling items via buy-it-now, it usually makes sense to check off the option that requires a buyer to pay immediately. That way one can avoid people who click buy-it-now and never pay (note: if an offer is accepted, then there is no way to make someone pay immediately).

As far as I know, it's an option for everyone now. It was available for me before I had a store.

 

At risk of continuing the OT portion of the thread...as a buyer I find that a bit frustrating because if I am trying to BIN multiple items from the same seller who offers combined shipping, I can't pay immediately without paying multiple/ALL the shipping fees. Once in awhile I'll do it anyway and hope the seller will give me a refund (so far so good for the most part...but not a given).

Is there a way to allow BIN with immediate payment that will then allow for an immediate fee adjustment?

 

Usually you can click on add to cart, and if a seller set something up for shipping discounts, it will automatically be done in the cart.

For my listings, they are mostly all free shipping, so there should be no issue.

 

I have the option even without a store. It may not be available in the quick listing tool, but it should be there if one selects the advanced listing tool.

 

eBay closed the return in the buyer's favor. He has to provide tracking and return it before they force a refund. I'll let you guys know what happens from here.

Sight, just another reason not to allow 30 day returns on eBay

 

If you don't you don't get the top rated seller discount. I really hate Ebay sometimes as 30 days is excessive 14 is plenty imo.
