Anyone collecting Seated coinage by date and mintmark??

I am amazed at how few people collect these series by date and mintmark.

If only a few hundred people were collecting each series, prices would increase dramatically.

There are many dates that have fewer than surviving pieces.

Coins like the 1909-vdb and 1916-d dime are common dates compared to many Seated semi-keys and keys.

Actually, there are way more mint state 1916-d dimes than many seated dates in all grades combined!!!

So do we have anyone here working on a series? Anyone collecting by die variety??

Yep.. On any given day you can find 20 S-VDB's, 20 14-D's and 10 1922 plain Lincolns. Most of them are real, lol. I have 2 ANACS 16-D Mercs, AG-3, but hey , they collect. I will be visiting some type coinage soon, I'm too busy hoarding Lincolns right now.

The 09-SVDB is in no way a rare or scarce coin, in any grade. If millions collected the Seated Lib series, it would drastically change things. We just went thru this with Bust halves the other day.

You just had a 1794 Bust large cent I almost bid on, now thats a tough one too, but went for way less than a common 09-SVDB..
Go figure. Not sure about the Seated folks, but I know we have some Barber guys.

 

I collect Seated coins. Been bouncing back and forth with Seated and Bust recently. They are tough to find, even at shows most of the dealers say, we dont bother bringing them, just weight that dont sell. Now they are bringing a few knowing that I am going to be there.

I just picked up a 1871 Seated Half Dime in XF the other day while I was in Virginia.

 

As little as I collect US coins anymore, I do try to collect Seated coinage by date/mintmark. Not very persistantly, but anytime I see a decent deal I pick it up. In fact, most of my set is low grade/damaged - so if you have any that are too crappy for you, send 'em my way! Lol.

I'm working on seated dimes, I like the design variety. I don't have much hope of getting together even 50% of a 'complete' collection, so I just concentrate on getting a distribution across the years of issue, and looking for examples with good strikes.

 

It would be a nice set to put together, but I pretty much limit myself to my Type Set for US coins. I do have a few nice seateds for that though.

 

Seated coins come in large sets.
Then you have the half dimes, dimes, quarters, halfs and dollars.
That alone would be a daunting task.
And the keys put it out of the range of all but a very few collectors.

I do a typeset and that still takes a lot of Seated coins.

 

collecting problem free seated coins is a rather difficult proposition regardless of denomination as all of them have seriously rare stoppers (70-s H10c, 73-CC no Arrows 10c, 76-CC 20c, 73-CC no arrows 25c, 78-s half, & the 70-s dollar, to name a few). Only those with millions to spend could ever hope to complete a seated set in any denomination meaning that most don't try. Part of the fun of collecting the mercury dime or Lincoln cent sets is the knowledge that examples of the "keys" are attainable with just a little saving. This isn't true for most people in regards to the seated series.

I really like the later seated, esp the dimes & quarters.
I try to collect them, but all dates are getting very difficult to get.

 

I collect, or should say collected the seat half dimes. I use the past tense because I have not actively pursued the last three pieces I need for some time now. My set is complete except for the 1846, 1865, and 1867.

The half dimes are the easiest of the seated sets to complete but it is by no means an easy set.

 

If I remember correctly, Coin Values ran an article about the Seated Lib coins a while back, I'll have to dig that out and re read it.

 

I love 'em, but I have a lot of "closure drive"... In general, I want to seal the deal and complete the set... so I gotta set reasonable goals.

A complete set of Seated Libbies of any denomination is out of the question. Instead, I go for a small number of really nice ones. Type coins.

 

i collect seated dimes and 1/2 dimes. im down to 12 1/2 dimes and 29 dimes. i have alot of extra 1/2 dimes and dimes that im just sitting on in hopes of opening a coin shop after i get out of the Air Force or to trade for the rarer 1/2 dimes and dimes. EDITED--No offers to trade please
