Sure... I've known a couple of people who collected more extreme examples. Anything is "collectible"; the real and only issue is how much such things can generally, and repeatedly, achieve in the greater marketplace. Fortunately or unfortunately, my experience has been that pulling worthwhile premiums, even on said more extreme examples, is easier said than done, even when offered to the "right" buyer. However, this was some years ago and things may have somewhat changed.
Not a chance. Look at what it did to that date and mint mark. Did you ever see a date so mangled from a strike? It's cut where the jaw meets the neck, too, although it's not as pronounced, there. Here's for comparison...
This really had me going for a second cause I knew if the extreme doubled die in 83 p and that's the first thing that caught my eye. Got me sweating there for a second
There is an RPM in the series that every example that I have seen has strong MD. I got outbid on a couple cherrypickes of the variety. I always looked carefully at the mint mark if I saw that date & mint combo with extreme MD. I think it was 1939-S but I'll have to go research it again. Neve was able to cherry one though. Edit: That was it. 1939S-RPM-001. Poor die must have been loose through the majority of the run. http://varietyvista.com/02a LC RPMs Vol 1/1939SRPM001.htm http://doubleddie.com/967399.html http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1939&die_id=1939s1mm001&die_state=lds
