So I was roll searching last week and came across this thing. It seems that the rim of the coin is alot thicker than a normal cent and the detail is missing around the rim as well. A quick destricption of what may of happened is apreciated. Again.. the rim of this coin is somewhat thicker. Thanks!

Probably not slot machine or vending machine damage as there aren't many 1 cent machines nowadays - although there were still "penny" slot machines in some parts of Nevada until the late '60s-early '70s.

Early stage "spooning" (do a forum search on that word to see earlier threads) is a distinct possibility IMO.

Not spooning, grease filled die. The grease kept the metal from filling the die, but the extra material (grease) resulted in the planchet being under higher pressure than normal so th rims filled in more fully than normal.

    Thanks.
I couldn't figure out the flat strike but the (very) full rims.
