I included some symbolic imagery and references throughout.

I know that symbolism was one of the main features they were after.

Maybe they were too subtle - not sure.

Possibly, their committee has a very strong history of not picking the best designs lately though. The quote might have hurt the chances requiring both sides. Either way it is a beautiful design you came up with and I would have bought it.

It always costs way more to invent and design the technology to do something for the first time.

I love the ideas posted here, but the authorizing legislation calls for the design to be of the visor of an astronaut's helmet, even though this coin begs to use the curve for the surface of the Moon.

You do realize that for phase one they just wanted examples of your work, not a coin design. And even if you had gotten to phase 2 your would only be designing one side, the concave side.

Yes, I submitted the two images as "optional" and "fantasy".

Thanks - I thought it may have been too subtle. It's also supposed to tie in with the first half of JFK's quote around the rim area, as the bald eagle gazes at the moon and longs to fly/reach for the moon.

honestly, I didn't see it until it was pointed out. It's cool, but I don't know how it will translate onto the coin.

Yeah, I wanted to accentuate the eyes with a mirrored finish to draw attention to the reflection of the moon there, with a satin proof finish everywhere else since it's supposed to be night time.

I think that they wanted Neil Armstrong in the middle of the coin.

I'm no artist but I think a good design would be an astronaut on the left side of one of the coins, perhaps standing next to the American flag. And you can see the suface of the Moon, the craters etc.. and in the background the Earth rising. I hope I worded that right. in essence the main foreground would be the surface of the Moon with the astronaut standing to the left side with the American flag and the Earth rising in the background. But not to have it so small where you couldn't distinguish the features of some of the continents and the clouds. Do we have any artists here that could draw that up? Can you picture it?

Yeah the Mint posted what they wanted somewhere, I don't remember what it was for the reverse convex side. For this fantasy design, I did put Armstrong's foot taking "ONE small step for man, ONE giant leap for mankind" with the word ONE subtly drawing reference to it over Neil's boot. It was probably too subtle lol.

If I were a US citizen, I'd make a design with his first words of Neil Armstrong when his first footstep was on the Moon for the first time:

""this is one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind" (July 20, 1969 at 22:56)

Under these, I'd add these "mankind's giant leap hasn't landed on the Moon yet, after 48 years and 16 days, we are still hopeful, there is 1 year 349 days to 50th year ."
