I like'em! Cant wait to get mine! The finish on the half dollar looks different from the 2014 silver enhanced version...
I would of like to get a set but I feel these have no where to go but down. Once all of these sets hit the market I don't see close to 225,000 people wanting them in their collection.
Do you think modern sets like the 2012 silver proof set, or coins and chronicles sets from last year, will follow suit? Or will the low mintages help retain their aftermarket values? I've started selling off my coins and chronicles sets (Truman, Johnson, Eisenhower, Kennedy) because I'm fearing their values will drop back down to their list price - similar to the 1999 silver proof set. I'm more comfortable with the 2012 silver proof set retaining its value so I may hold on to it, who knows. I'm less interested in these coins so I'd rather sell them off now while their worth something to fund future coin purchases. Should we even start to talk about the October release of the Limited Edition Silver Proof Set with the S-minted proof ASE?
SO you can buy them directly at the mint. I’m not too far from Philly so that would be reasonable. Did you have to wait until noon or were they out right away? Was there a line?
It doesn't matter what the Mint does, the collectors will still complain that it is unfair. They have done low household limits on low mintage sets before. The collectors crucified them because they couldn't get all the sets they wanted, and the big dealers that used many people to order sets for them still got the lions share. Other times due to the low household limits they stayed available for a long time so collectors didn't bother rushing to buy them because they were readily available. Then the sales period would end and they would complain because they missed out on what turned out to be a low mintage issue due to poor sales. No matter what the Mint does they are in the wrong.
Word was there was no line at the Denver Mint shop when they opened. 20 set limit per transaction for those buying in person. On another note, my order has shipped!
Well with that attitude, it guarantee's that they'll go nowhere! Now, if everybody was saying, "Man, I'm gonna pickup 10 Sets of these because with that mintage, they'll be sure winners in the long run! And that Kennedy? What's not to want?" The market would sizzle! I mean think about it! 484,000 1909-S VDB Coins were minted! Even in G4 it's a $500 coin! It's not a particularly attractive coin, rigid Profile of Abe, a couple of wheat stalks on the Reverse surrounding some outrageously large letters of ONE CENT yet, for some wacky and unexplainable reason, everybody seems to want one! Resale values are STRONG! If that Mintage Number represented the "Strongly Want and I just gotta Have Point" then these sets would go for hundreds! A good marketer would stress that point!
You're absolutely right Conder. You see, the line between "collector" and "flipper" is a very dull grey and usually covered in clouds because the one thing that attracts folks about coin collecting, it VALUE! Whether it's sustainable value or simply perceived value, Value is demanded! It has little to do with mintages or even the overall appearance and design of the coin! It has to have value because VALUE is the one qualifying factor that governs one's sanity for spending $500 for a single cent. The VALUE can be related to folks who wonder WTH you were thinking because once you tell them the coins VALUE, they completely understand. Value Validates the passion of many. (Which is why soda bottle caps just aren't that popular anymore.)
I was at the Denver Show yesterday and today also...Waited in the long 3-4 hour line for a while and a friend came into the line behind me. He was buying 200 sets, so he sold me my sets at cost and I left the line to enjoy the show...the Mint was only a couple of blocks away, so I walked there to buy some sets, but all were sold earlier...got my sets today and they're absolutely fabulous coins...I tried buying them thru the Mint's web site and by phone, but all were gone in the first couple of minutes...several dealers were buying thousands of sets, so they were all gone by the end of the day at the show. Selling for $55-60 raw, $250 for 69s, $700 for 70s
The set finish is what I expected, it's the $1 coin and paper money set which were released in 2014,2015 and 2016 but instead of just the sac coin being the special finish it's each coin. This is a have to have set rn.
How can anyone who could buy a set for $29.99 worry about whether or not it goes down in value in the future? It's the first set where all the coins are enhanced, how could you not want to add one to your collection. I didn't get onto the Mint's website until 10:10 (MST) and my order for two sets went through, so I guess they really didn't sell out in "two minutes" as some people as saying.
Had you said "some collectors" instead of " the collectors", I might agree with you to some extent, as you can't please everyone it seems. But you used a blanket statement to include collectors as a whole. You are wrong. These sets are produced for collectors, not as a way to profit for the few that can be on the mint's website at a specific time during a regular work day. The mint is clueless, and out of touch with the collectors interests, and is why these problems exist. A limit of two per household for a couple weeks would only help the collectors, and hamper the ability to purchase larger quantities for the flippers. Please don't post your opinion as fact, and it's more than plain to see, from this thread alone that you don't speak for the collectors at all. The ones that want this set will get one, ultimately. Your statements don't even carry the majority on this thread, yet alone the collector as a whole.
Same here (and the tapatalk app), saw the alert just as I was walking out of the door for work. I'm alright with being 20 minutes late. I wonder how long this batch will last.
