You are a brother and a friend and a most generous fellow, but let not the lacking of a reminder deter you. It was totally my fault. I even mentioned to the wife (last night) that there was something from the mint that I needed to buy on the morrow.

I'll garner the little devil down the road. devil.gif

I logged on on to the mint website about 10 minutes after the sets went on sale, only to find that they had already sold out, so a big "thank you" to all the flippers, and of course to the U.S. mint for putting no order limits on the set, for saving me the $29.95 plus shipping for the ONE set I would have bought.

Yea its a shame. I wanted one of these sets. I got a reminder from the mint and when I got there, all gone!! Flippers don't care about the hobby, just their pockets. Guess I'll wait til the value bottoms out on them to get one.

Or end up like the 1999 Silver Proof Sets whose value has been steadily declining over the past 16 years

To be fair, the 1999 held its value for quite some time (at least until 2008) before it started its decline.

They do appear completely oblivious to Collectors don't they?

Well, the 1999 Silver Proof Set fell to the wayside when the State Quarters Program Ended. That is why it's price dropped so rapidly.

The same is true for the Presidential Dollars. As soon as the mint made them collector only, the friggin market fell right out from under them!

It'll also be true when the ATB Quarters end.

    Why?

Simple. The Mint creates the market and when the program ends, the market ends with it as some new program will begin. Or not.

It is obvious that the Mint doesn't care about the individual collector. What about those of us that work and can't log on to the site while working? Absolutely ridiculous! There should be household limits! I guess I'll have to wait until they become available at a reasonable price in a few months. Sad.

I disagree. The price fell because the distribution finally saturated the market. Those who wanted one finally had access. The price spike created by a distribution of product that didn't match market demand was eliminated when the distribution was corrected.

In essence, when people buy things for the sake of selling them at a profit, they need strong demand in order to support the artificial market that they have created. If demand wanes before the distribution equalizes, prices only have 1 way to go... down.

Not really sure what they are thinking with that listing. Any of the sources looking for 1k sets wouldn't be using ebay nor would they be willing to pay that price per set in a bulk deal. I guess it is their way of letting people know they have it available

It's ridiculous. I'm gonna wait this one out like I did the silver Kruger.

I'll disagree with you Mike primarily because the impetus behind the surge in pricing for the 1999 Silver Proof Sets were multi-thousand dollar auction sales of PR70DCAM Silver State Quarters. One sold for $17,000+
After that sale, prices averaged around $3,000!
Yes, 1999 had a relatively low mintage and some of the total production were destroyed by the US Mint due to improper storage BUT that price surge had everything to do with Registry Set Competition and the auction sales of PR70DCAM coins bringing some serious dollars. Serious enough to justify a $200 then a $300 then a $400 price tag for the set.

But, as with anything, once the shiny dangly aspect goes away at the programs end, prices drop. Dramatically as is typical with the Modern coin Market. I seriously doubt it had anything to do with market "saturation" unless saturation is defined as folks were no longer collecting them.

BTW, my 4 sets shipped yesterday.

When someone gets their set in the mail please share some nice picture of it, I think myself and a lot of other people who were not able to get their hands on the set would love to see it :angelic:

Hey Guys, I bought two sets at the Philly mint. I looked through 10 sets there and picked the nicest ones. Here are some photos. I'll am selling 1 on Ebay for best offer or $54. I had to pay $18.00 for parking and free shipping which is the main reason for my selling price.

Thanks for posting images! Is the enhanced finish on the obverse of the quarters that unnoticeable? Maybe it's the lighting in the pictures but that seems to be where the finish is least noticeable. Anyways cool set, wish I had a chance to get one.

The finish is something I have never seen. As I mentioned I had to look at 10 sets before I found 2 that were acceptable. There were small spots on the obverse of the cents and also uneven finish in the fields of the half and quarter. The dime, nickle and dollar were fine. The finish gives the coin a dark appearance and is like a mixture of a satin and mat finish. I wonder what the TV re-sellers will charge.
