Just saw an email from ANACS offering a flash sale (through next Tuesday, 8/8, get it?). I don't see any specific exclusion for gold, which makes it more useful than the last few, but I'd want to verify that. Guess they got tired of answering that question...!
I have got to make a few extra bucks on the 'bay this week and try to take advantage of that deal. I have never submitted anything personally to any of the grading companies, but I'm sure I have 8 coins I would like to send in. Almost did it my last LCShow. They were set up right by CONECA if I'm not mistaken. Guy was super nice and helpful and he walked me over to the CONECA guy so we could use his scope for my '22 no/weak D, but we had a hard time determining the die pair since it is kind of a beater and it was near closing time. Of course he wanted me to submit it with him. Anyways... ANACS would be best for the things I have that are varieties, correct? And it took me a minute on the 8/8
Consensus seems to be that they're good for variety attribution, best for some series -- but there's also fine print that variety attribution will cost extra. $8/coin is darn cheap, but you do have to pay to ship them (unless you submit in person), and return shipping and insurance will likely add $4-5/coin. I've got a 1911-D half eagle (cleaned) that really needs authentication before I can sell it, but I'm not sure how much else I've got that would gain value from an ANACS slab. I'll think it over, but it's been a couple of years since I've actually brought myself to take advantage of one of these specials. I'm still a bit sore about the "grade 2 free" promotion that cost me ~$25 for return shipping and insurance...
Variety/Attribution/Error Research/Verification Verification of varieties and other well-documented attributions. This includes VAM numbers, Overton numbers, Fivaz-Stanton varieties, Sheldon and Newcomb numbers, Cohen, Bolender, Breen, Flynn, Snow and more. Simply list the variety number to be verified in the space provided on the ANACS submission form. The ANACS graders will verify your attribution, and the variety designation, if correct, will be placed on the ANACS label. This service is an additional $9 per coin. In the event you do not know the attribution, if you request it, ANACS will research it for you. Simply write “Attribute” in the space provided on the ANACS submission form. This service is an additional $12 per coin.
Every grading sale that comes up always makes me think about getting things graded. For me, my grand total would be $127. I don't know if it's worth it. Your opinions are welcome. The Arizona quarters are extra cactus leaf varieties, or at least that's what I wrote. Also, the nickel is 1950 D, needed an 8th coin.
So... $8 x 8 coins = $64 [for slabbing] + $9 x 8 coins[to verify or $12 to attribute, so another $72 to $96 ] = $134 to $160 + ~$4-5 per coin [2-way ship w/ insurance] = roughly $166 to $200 for me to send 8 coins potentially? ↑ I blame that poor math equation on Common Core.
I need to do the math, but a lot of their promos include shipping, so this might not be the best deal.
I hear summer is slow for the TPGS especially one in particular. I'll bet if you don't take advantage of this attempt to keep the lights on, the offer may go down to $7 per coin sometime this year. We NEED to keep all four major TPGS in business as they each have something to offer.
I just mailed in my first submission last Friday. Then I read this deal and was bummed, but then I called and they told me that this new deal does NOT include return shipping. Maybe you guys already realized that. (@jwitten , you beat me by a few seconds... I'm on the phone with them now and I think that it all comes out pretty even, but it seems to depend on the total value of the coins and the insurance they'd have to put on them) Edit: using "insider3" and "75", my total was $102. If I tried to use the new code ("crazy8"), my total would have been $128.
Yes and no. The best for more obscure varieties and probably even a new discovery, but if it is a big money well known one you will be leaving some money on the table not using PCGS/NGC Pretty sure the other one was better. Their absolute minimum for return shipping on 8 coins for this deal is $32 and most people will probably be paying $40 on the return shipping.
I just have to say this: as a part time dealer, ANACS is currently useless to me. I like them, but buyers do not. If I had some things for my personal collection to get slabbed, or some Dan Carr tokens, I'd take advantage of this deal and use it. But anything that going to be sold simply cannot be in an ANACS holder. I KNOW that they know what they're doing, but the market really does not accept them as a whole. Personally, and recently, I've watched raw coins go for more than nice ANACS slabbed coins.
I would take advantage of some of these deals if they included foreign coins. I just don't have many qualifying coins that I would want graded and more importantly would want graded by ANACS. I agree that they're pretty good but just not market acceptable.
I disagree as collectors like myself would look at an Anacs slab actually before a pcgs or NGC. I hear this echoed time and time again and at shows seen Ana s slabs go out the door as fast or even faster than the other two.
That depends again on whom you're talking to....Anacs will slab and note just about any variety the other 2 only a handful picked few. As a variety collector I find more in Anacs then again the other 2.
Not sure why you replied to me. I don't do varieties. I would love it if they included world coins. My US coins are either too cheap to be worth slabbing or (not as common) worth more than the $500 limit.
Your statement that Anacs isn't market acceptable is not true! If it were they be out of business... their grading has been more so spot on compared to what I've seen in the two biggies.
I agree their grading is fine and in some cases stricter than the big 2. My comment is based on my experience selling. Anecdotal as it is, that's what I've seen and as noted above that's been what @C-B-D has experienced as well.
