Hello, on Wednesday I bought my very first box of pennies and found this interesting penny. I'm interested in your thoughts about this penny, would this be considered a mint error or post mint damage? Thank you.
This is obviously post-mint damage (PMD). If you're going to start looking for errors, you must learn about the minting process, first. If this had been a mint error, you would have to ask yourself, "At what stage of the minting process could this have happened?" Chris

Thank you, yes I'm new at this and have lots to learn. My first box of pennies and this just popped out and thought it was different. Found lots of Wheat pennies and found some re-punched mint marks and many colorful pennies. IT'S FUN!! Thanks again!
I just want you to prepare yourself for the inevitable. There are billions and billions of coins in circulation, and it is safe to assume that an inordinate number of them have been damaged in one way or another. It is also safe to assume that much of this damage will be unique in its own way. So, it is not unusual that newcomers to error collecting, such as yourself, will be hit with the idea that they have never seen one like it. We've heard this comment, here, many, many times over.
